So I went with a Uhaul truck and trailer for the trip. I cost me around $300 including tiedowns for motorcycles. The weather coming back from Cleveland was pretty good and the roads were nice and dry. The bike still got a little salty so in2deg C (35 f) I gave my new bike its first wash. Hopefully this cold weather will pass and the season can begin, I'm fully prepared!!

Congrats Bigsheep! Are you in Canada? How did you import it. Was it hard?

Congratulations on your new bike!
Apart from the light weight, I don´t think you are going to miss your CTX700...

Hey Popgun,
The import was not hard at all. The RIV Canada website is a great place to start, it gives you a step by step of the process, not bad at all. The cheapest cb1100 I could find was a 2013 in Barrie for 8700 with no accessories. The one I got in Cleveland was 5130 US which came to 6699 Canadian at the time, plus it had three hard cases, an up graded seat, etc....I got everything paid duties and import for just under $8000 including rental of the Uhaul, GST. If I would have bought the 8700 plus tax and added all the accessories I would have been over $12000 easy.
Here it is!

Thanks BigSheep (or large ovine

)
Sounds like a GREAT deal! And I didn't know it was that easy to get a bike from the US. Thanks for filling us in.

Congrats! Nice bike! Forgive me, but were you the one considering hauling the bike home inside your van? If so, I'm glad you went the trailer route and very glad you got it home safely and in one nice shiny piece!

Yes, I was sure the bike would fit in the van and could have been tied down securely, however I didn't have the manpower to assure it. The uhaul motorcycle trailer was easy to unload by myself even with the remnants of the last snow storm still on the ground! My cousin who bought the cb450 was loading it in my uncles truck, it fell over during the load in, nothing happened to the bike but the truck bed took some damage. I figured $300 was reasonable money to make the job much easier and to prevent any accidental damage to my wife's van. It's here, it's gorgeous, now I just need some good weather and decide if I want RLET's. Need to do a big trip to see if I'm going to keep those kuryakin highway pegs or not. But the engine guards are staying for sure, a friend of mine went off the road on his Kawasaki Vulcan and the engine guards were instrumental in us not needing a tow truck that night.
