Please help id part

Hey guys. My battery finally kicked the bucket yesterday while I was at the Meltdown vintage bike show in Hendersonville, NC. Thankfully, one of the other guys there gave me a push so I could bump start the bike. I replaced the battery today and found this attached to the old battery. What is it? I suspect it's for a battery tender or heated gear, but I own neither. Thanks for the help.[Image: 41c82fcf9d488d522ecc7ea71a19a81e.jpg]

I can't see what the plug end looks like but it either for a battery tender/12v accessories or for heated gear. Pull the cap off of the end. if it's round, it's probably for heated gear. if it's a prong and a hole, it's for a battery tender, although you can buy other things like a usb charger that will fit on the end.

Battery tender.

If you had one, maybe your battery would have lasted longer. Wink

This is the plug end. Pic isn't great, though.[Image: 6c1a9995309ce66e114e9be57b7e86a3.jpg]

The battery was the original on a 2013. How much longer do they last with a tender?

What PowerDubs said. Battery tender cable. And you can use other accessories.

Some dealers even install them before delivery. Mine does not. Well, unless you pay.

I'm still on my original battery and it's a 2013. I keep it on a tender most of the time in the winter and none of the time in the summer.

That adapter can come in handy...I have a USB adapter for mine so I can keep my phone charged. I also have a "lighter plug" adapter for it.

Thanks guys. The original owner probably kept it on a battery tender. How much more life do you get out of a battery. With a tender?

I didn't have a garage until recently. My CB has been outside under a cover for a couple years. I bet thst probably shortened the battery life a bit

Can't say exactly other than to say it's worth the cost of the battery tender. If you let the bike sit a month for example in the winter without riding your battery will most likely drain and need recharging which means you will need a battery tender anyway. I used to only use mine in the winter but I use it year round now. I'm still in my original battery.

The dealer fitted an Optimate pigtail like that to my '14 CB battery and it's very handy while my bike sits out the winter.
It's your choice, either leave it on or remove it.

I also run my heated gear and on my ST occassionally an old GPS when on trips plugged into my battery tender pigtail. It is just a chord that allows power to flow both ways to the battery and from the bike
