Took my wife for her first ride a few days ago. While she found my stepped K+H seat plenty comfortable, she wants a back rest.
I do not want a rear rack so that rules out the factor Honda rack + pad.
I searched and contacted a shop that can make custom sissy bars. I already have the Kijima chrome tubular grab bar.. so I am going to send it to him so he can use it's measurements and tab location.
I am going to stick to the same classic chrome round tube style, incorporate a classic sissy bar style and a back pad. I am also going to have a lower cross tube below the pad so that you can strap a bag to the rear between the top and bottom of the bar.
Does anyone else want one? They won't be cheap, but they should be bulletproof as they are solid, not hollow.

Wait.... I thought a sissy bar was where effeminate riders hung out after a grueling Powder Puff football game. Learn something new every day, I guess.

Not that would be a truly retro look!

This is what I installed. But I have the rack. It is from a old Honda not sure what year, got it off eBay for $30. It also has the tool pouch on the back.

I purchased a back pad in the shape and size I wanted. It arrived last week, so this week I shipped it and the Kijima grab bar to the fabricator. Tracking shows the stuff will arrive to him today.
Here is a quick sketch what what I am doing, from the rear.
I think I may have the top bend back a bit for a little more attitude, and am still contemplating on whether to add a lower cross tube to secure stuff to.

I am not going to lie- I am surprised there is no interest in this.

My question is how many owners ride with a passenger and how often?

Given the demographic of the bike (older riders mostly) I thought (probably wrongly) that most would have partners that want to join the ride and go on trips, no?
Is a riding partner more of a young girl on the back of a young guys bike in general?

There's been a bit of posting on sissy bars in the past—see this search result
http://cb1100forum.com/forum/search.php?...order=desc
It hasn't, as I recall, excited a great deal of enthusiasm. My wife comes with m occasionally, but I use a top box so that provides some support. Somewhere there's a photo of a member—metallyguitarded, I think—with his wife aboard and no backrest or rack. She looked a bit precarious.
Be interested to see what you come up with.

And heck Ron, google image sissy bar- a surprising amount don't even have a rear seat, much less a rear pad- they do it strictly for style.

Cormanus. I am just surprised, as sissy bars were extremely popular on the original CB of any engine size- and the owners of these bikes generally are old enough to have been owners of those bikes way back when- you would think trends would persist.

And yes, although my wife has gone on a couple rides with no support, she says she holds on firmly despite my deliberately riding really mellow while she is on. In fact she claims her arms hurt.
