Riding my 2014 cb1100, I come into a corner the bike starts to lean in to the corner, everything feels fine until I lean a little harder ( not a knee drag lean). It feels like the rear tire is breaking loose, like is is starting to drift suddenly. I have not rolled on the throttle just yet, and if I do it feels the same but a tad more alarming. I tire presure is right. The tire has 2000 miles on it and not a real hard flat center wear area. Any thoughts?

What tyre do you have? Pterodactyl reckons his rear PR3 used to 'skip' occasionally..

Tire model and suspension will determine how well the tires are planted on the road in a hard turn. My stock tires slid quite a bit in hard turning so I switched to Pirellis. I also upgraded my suspension and that keeps the rear tire firmly on the ground. I would try the Pirelli Angel GTs though.

I never had a problem with the stock tires slipping and I wore the rear all the way to the edge. We need to know what tire and size you've got, and of course, there's other variables like the road surface.

Tire pressure: "Right" is what felt right to me. A friend put too much in my CB500F and it felt terrible. I lowered it. I like running as low as 30 and 33. Then I can bump it up a bit as needed. I had to keep an eye on it all the time, but it was good in corners. I'm also very light so tight suspension made my bikes jump in corners sometimes too. I was too light for the springs in the shocks. There really is not one size fits all. I always adjusted my fork and shock preload to see what felt best as well. Finally changed to Michelins or Pirelli and they were nice. I like sticky tires rather than "touring" tires which I find too hard, though they last.

Also, I see people playing around with preload too much as if it is a magic pill. Preload is to set sag- that's it.

Preload/sag has zero effect on spring rate - spring rate does affect sag though.

Spring rate is #1- it supports you 'static', moves you down, moves you back up.

Sag sets 'static' position -starting point- in the range of movement- you should be roughly 1/3rd down from full extension so there is room to go UPWARD as well as compress.

Compression and rebound dampening control the rate of speed going down or up. Yes so does a spring- but dampening is exactly what it is called- if there were no oil and just a spring you would bounce up and down repeatedly- and too far in either direction.

Oil level and oil weight fine tune.

Again- springs are #1. Everything else plays off of them, with some crossover.

On your tire pressure- Tires are designed to work with a certain profile, and certain flex= certain pressure.

Lower pressure will feel more comfortable, and both slow and stabilize the turns as you are putting down a wider footprint. Doesn't mean it is 'right' though.

Tire age may be a concern if they are original.

I don't think tire age can be a problem in North America yet, tires are good for 5 years and the cb1100 has only been here for 4. My 2013 had original tires on it when I got it home and they only had 3700 miles on them, I ride fairly hard in the corners and the stocks were fine, not great, but not suffering from old age yet. On his 2014 the tires should be newer tires. If the tires aren't performing properly I would guess there are other factors not just age on a 2014.
