2017 EX

Keep in mind there's no "off season" for motorcycles in San Diego. Sure, this'll be a leftover 2017 model in a few months, but folks ride year 'round there and motorcycle sales don't fall off in the fall / winter like they do elsewhere. They're blessed with a wonderful 12 month riding season.

Yes, same here in Florida. Love it!

Baloney on that. Season is year round. Population density is high. So I bet that dealers in Cali probably sell more bikes than anywhere else. Which translates to increased service, parts, and accessories demand, which is where a higher profit can be made.

It's just ballsy. Maybe there aren't many 2017s out there yet and they are trying to grab all the cash out of someone who just has to be one of the first to get one? Even so, it's still insulting.

I believe that Scoobynut was referring to the price paid by the residents living in the area. Think of an equation that involves family, cost of living, work opportunities, climate, scenery, recreational activities, etc.. We all have different priorities so that equation works out differently for all of us. For many of us, that equation also changes over time as we grow older. I've lived in a number of places where things like motorcycles, cars and houses were far less expensive than where I live now. But the savings I could have realized on those things wasn't worth it to me. For me, those items simply weren't of enough value when I was stuck in an area that I didn't enjoy.

I took it that he was describing it from the dealer's standpoint. Higher costs to dealer to operate in that area.

I wouldn't conclude his costs are necessarily higher than anyone else's, especially in El Cajon, which isn't exactly an affluent area. I'm sure he pays the same for his bikes and labor as everyone else. It's a money grab while the "gettin' is good," pure and simple. You know, flashy new bike, shiny red paint, strong economy, low interest rates. Like I mentioned earlier, good on him if he can get it. If the bike is still in his showroom a year from now, you can bet the "added dealer mark-up" will be long gone.

I approached Motoworld of El Cajon when I was shopping for my 2014 Dlx. They told me they had no plans stock one, so I went elsewhere.

Well the dealer nearest me has one in stock and they've already knocked about $2k off MSRP.

I think the 2017s are going to be 2013-2014 redux in terms of sales in the U.S., even with a macro tailwind from the economy.

These bikes just don't seem to do well in the U.S.

That the brand new 2014s don't fly out of showroom floors marked down to $6-8k is insane to me considering what you're getting.

It's a Triumph world, with respect to retro standards here.
