My condolences on the lost of your Newfie. We have three of them here and they are getting up in age. I dread ever having one of them die or us having to make the decision to send them to the rainbow bridge.

I always have Dachshunds in my life... and Bella is my/our 9th...
Maybe will take her for a ride one day but first have to make a special cage for her

Thank you Paulw. Yes, it's really a tough thing that our pets' span is often so short. Wow, three newfies! Spectacular! This was our first and I think they are a wonderful breed.
My Rudi is a Newf / Poodle mix, now 8 1/2 yrs. and I'm really going to try and enjoy him every possible moment.
Getting ready to hit the road tomorrow with Rudi on our first road / camping trip. It's supposed to be pretty hot. I purchased this umbrella with a mount to provide some shade for those times when I'll have to park out in the sun.

Rudi and I returned from our first trip in one piece and it was a success! : ) Covered approximately 650 miles and Rudi did incredibly well considering the conditions, which were extremely hot. He also finally chose to lie down in the tub for the first times. He pretty much would lie down whenever I exceeded 45 mph, which made me a lot more relaxed and willing to increase speed. Whenever I'd slow down, he'd then sit up.



Rudi is quite the rock star. There was someone who wanted to take his picture at just about every gas station and road rest we took.


Even with the sidecar and bike loaded, the CB performed very well. Didn't notice any unusual handling. It was a real workout once I got down to the twisty roads of southern Indiana, though. Pretty exhausting after a long hot day of riding.

And yes, it was hot! Temps in the 90's. I did carry a small spray bottle and would occasionally give Rudi a misting. I realized though at the dog daycare he goes to, they will use spray bottles to disrupt dogs who are aggressive or misbehaving. I think Rudi thought he was in trouble whenever I misted him ... poor boy!

The ride home was so hot and sunny that I soaked a white t-shirt in water and laid it on Rudi's back under his harness.

He didn't say whether or not it helped, but he didn't show any signs of heat distress on the way home ; ) I also carried a small cooler filled with ice so we could both have cold water at every stop.

Planning another road trip for next week. Was going to go south to an outdoor music festival, but the preliminary forecast looks so hot that I think Rudi and I will head to a northern beach campground instead!

Glad Rudi enjoyed his trip. More I ride the CB the more I think it’d make an excellent tug.

Thanks Dan! My packing worked well enough, but because of the way weight can affect the balance of the rig, I've been advised to try and keep weight off of the rear of the sidecar in the future. Unfortunately, I can't add saddlebags because one of the sidecar mounting struts on the right side is totally in the way. If I could somehow get around that, my weight distribution issue would be resolved. May have to look into trying to pack more stuff on the sidecar frame between the bike and the tub.

I definitely would like to upgrade the suspension. The ride is OK for now, but I think would be much improved with that upgrade.

We bought a cool shirt for our dog. I forget the brand, but you wet it up, buckle it on the puppy and it keeps them a lot cooler. Depending up on the air flow, humidity etc. the frequency of reapplying water will vary.

I just finished talking to OPHQ and they said: Rudi as a passenger needs to wear a helmet at all times, could be a soft type, as per stealth officer.
