Wow I can't believe this thread still has life! I stepped away for a while because I needed to sell my bike before I started shopping. Sold my bike this week, although I will miss her dearly. I am debating a brand new 2013 CB, I love the red, or travel a couple hours and get a black 14 for a similar price. Or even possibly a BMW R1200R Classic. Who knows at this moment.
Happy to see that distance/camping is easily done on the cb.

you found a '13 still new in a dealership?? the '14's a know are everywhere, i really didn't know there were still '13 models floating around on showrooms.
that curiosity aside, if touring is what you're after get the '14. you'll probably like that 6th gear better for that purpose.

Any time, I had such a good time at the rally.
Wish we had set up a fall ride somewhere while we were all together.
The roads/routes were great and the comraderie was even better.
Current plans are to retire at end of the rear so by March when it warms up I’ll be doing some road trips, one to my hometown in eastern N C.

Yup I've found one near me in the dealership. The red is tempting, I feel black does nothing for the bike and new red tank isn't cheap. Trying to figure out If I could live just fine with the five speed.

The transmission of the 5 gear box is fine. Long and good enough for touring. It fits everywhere. I see no reason why to shift more than 5 gears. The torquey CB engine will also work great with only 4. 6 is in my opinion a bit overdressed for such a speedlimited bike. Too much of a good thing. This kills the last liveliness in the higher gears.

although i had no issue with my 5 speed CB for touring, I love slipping my 6 speed into 6th and rolling along at low rpms while getting better gas mileage. These days, any time I can maintain running over 47 mph I will be in 6th...back roads, freeway wherever. If I slow down to below 47 I pop it back into 5th.

I am now jostling my camping gear figuring out how to get it onto a bike with no luggage. One large duffle will need to do. So I'll pack the CB and head out to "LOCSTOC" an ST rally event this weekend, a bit over 200 miles away. Plus the local riding around Spring Green, Wisconsin.
Why not take the ST? because I just came back from "NEW-STOC" in Seven Bays, Washington State with the ST, 3414 miles in 6 days.
And mostly: JUST BECAUSE I CAN TAKE THE CB.

I'll post a ride report on Monday.
Ride Safely Y'all.

Have fun, ride safe Jim.
I just came back from OH-SToc, but my wife and I went up in her car cause my ST is well,... you know dead lol
I have ridden to OH-SToc before on my CB though. Lol
SToc season... No wonder my ranking on the mileage tracker is dropping like a stone.. No longer in the top 10 sniff sniff
