SOLD: Givi Monokey E45 Top Box - Old School!
#1

Hi all,

I officially have too much Givi luggage and am letting this one go - I have a duplicate and while I originally thought they'd make nice side cases, they are pretty big, and this is better suited as a top box.

It's an E45 Monokey box. Long discontinued, and in Givi's older style that looks like a vintage hard black suitcase, rather than their more modern boxes that have fake taillights, silver trim and such frippery. The box fits the look of a modern classic like the CB1100, which is why I love it.

Since these are very hard to find these days, when I got this one, it was perfectly usable, but my OCD called for a full refurbishment. It's been repainted in a matte black, and the red pinstripes have been replaced with fresh reflective red. There is a subtle band of black reflective tape around the middle section of the box that you can see in the pictures. This reflects white when it's hit with light at night for great visibility. it's a 45-liter box, easily holds a full-face helmet and is very roomy.

The Givi "made in Italy" logo is shined up and looks great. It's clean inside and the lock works smoothly. What looks like a horizontal emblem on the front is my toll road transponder, which I'll remove.

I'd love a local California sale, but I can ship it. Since it's a basic style, it's not too heavy.

$75 for the locals here on the forum, and I can get a shipping quote if someone wants to find out.

How big of a rectangle would fit in that box, ie laptop? I need about 10.5 x 15.75 to fit my laptop. I assume you can still buy mounting brackets from Givi for this?

It will fit any laptop going back to the 1800s.
And it will fit any Givi Monokey mount plate. There are several, but the generic E251 model has hardware to attach to any luggage rack. I have these plates on three of my bikes including my CB1100.

If anyone needs a primer on Givi terminology, “Monokey” is one of their mounting systems, meaning once you have a Monokey rack on your bike, any Givi Monokey box will snap onto it.

The advantage is that the box can quickly be unlocked and detached from the bike and carried like a suitcase. Then, when you return to the bike with it, it just snaps in place and is secured to the bike.

You know what? I actually would like a pickle.

Well, blow me down! I've always thought it was called a Monokey because only one key is needed to open the box or remove it from the bike.

Givi likes the word "Mono". The Monokey system is more robust and made for larger boxes with higher capacity. Monolock is a similar system but with lighter, smaller boxes.

For either, you can purchase key/lock sets in multiples so that yes, you can coordinate them to have one key to open multiple boxes. For example, I'm going to re-key all three boxes on Superbird so that I only need to carry one key for all three of them.

Thanks Gone. I suspect my 34L Givi must be a 'monolock'. Interesting about purchasing lock sets. I have an older Givi and the lock is starting to get a bit difficult to open. Good to know I can buy a new one.

If your mount plate has two long slots that the box slides into at the front, it's Monolock. If it's two small notches at the front, it's Monokey.

Just sold the E45 box locally! This can be deleted or left up for posterity, local interest, amusement for the masses, etc.
