My new boss has been working on a revised cargo box for the Blood Bikes, and wanted to swap out the box on Yellow Berta. Also, although I followed Sena's size chart for my company-issued Impulse modular helmet, the large the boss ordered for me was a bit too snug. He ordered me an XL, and it had come in. I said I could bring the bike to his place after my shift at the museum on Saturday, as he's about 20 minutes from there in L.A. I woke up earlier than normal Saturday, and hadn't been to the Donut Derelicts meetup in quite a while. So, I decided to saddle up and swing by on my way to the museum.
Another rider walked up as soon as I parked and was checking out Berta, asking me about my job. I asked what he was riding, and he was on a new NT1100. I haven't seen on on the road yet, so I was very interested to get his take on it. He loves it so far, and gave a glowing review of the DCT.
After the museum, swung up to the boss' place, and we swapped on the updated cargo box, and the new helmet fits great. It will be nice to wear the modular, as I won't need to remove and put my helmet back on when I'm dashing into and out of medical offices to pick up and drop off. Also, the boss said that the new client I had visited to show off the bike signed up with our service, so I got a pat on the back for putting on a good presentation.
I'd say that I'm fully confident with the big RTP, especially in heavy traffic. I'm also comfortable navigating the dash functions with the BMW "Wonder Wheel" to scroll through screens for the trip odometers, grip warmers, tire pressure readouts, etc. Good thing too, as I'm going to be training the next new rider tomorrow. True to his word, as the first full-time rider for the company, the boss is considering me our "Chief Rider" now that we'll have more bikes on the road.
On the other side of the garage, I put the final touch on Superbird. I had repainted the silver side fairing "cheeks" and was quite proud of how smooth they came out. I had to peel off the original black Honda logo sticker that was on these panels to paint them, and thought that a plain sticker was a bit cheap, so I decided to use a round chrome and black logo - still cheap from Ebay, but I think a little nicer than just a sticker.
And today, the Givi side racks arrived, so when I install them, I'll have a three-box, long distance touring machine. Even if she does feel like a featherweight after racking up the miles on the BMW.
