Gone, not so sure if it is a pic issue but the cam's R-journal shows some heat discoloration or wear due to oil starvation????
How is the cam cap #3?

Huh. That does look bad in the pic, doesn't it? Just went down to the work bench. That bluish look is just the photo, not on the cam itself, thankfully. The engine's clean, and hopefully my new life of sustained 70-75 mph commutes isn't doing it any harm. It sounds happy anyway.

did some tail section straightening on the 78 kz. my buddy David completely rearended me on his 24 H2 at a dead stop, long story. luckily neither of us got hurt but it mangled the plate mount i made, fortunately I was able to straighten it out. his bike suffered a cracked front fender and a few scuffs. here it is next to the cb last night. also got some nos fork tubes installed as the old ones were 'just' pitted enough to start eating the lh seal.

Unfortunate incident! Glad it wasn't worse.                                          

That KZ is a great looking bike.  Do you use the kick starter?  I'm assuming it has both, but maybe not?

My first bike was a '78 750KZ, which was a great bike. It was a four-cycle twin and a really nice bike. The kick starter would only work if the battery was good, which I learned when the battery was run-down one morning. It would bump-start, so I never have figured that one out. Seemed like a big waste of metal and extra weight to me.

Day 230.... finished out the month with a 48-mile ride @ 80 degrees and sunny. Except for when I was on vacation to visit Natl Parks out west with my wife for 12 days, I rode every day this month.

For September....18 of 30 days ridden.... 834 miles on the NC and 55 miles on the CB....total 889 miles
For the year .... 230 of 273 days ridden ....10,173 miles on the NC and 2,280 miles on the CB.....total 12,453 miles

92 days to go in the year
