The old forum
#1
I got this just now when trying to access the old forum. It's not the same as the overload message we have been seeing for months. Does anyone have an idea if this means this is the end?

I have seen that all day., and Cormanus informed me he saw it in the middle of the night last night. We have no idea if it's the end or not. One hopes not, but we must be prepared for that eventuality. Thanks goodness David has the foresight to start fresh and save some of the good old stuff.

I actually got the normal looking message in the middle of my night, but the error number and condition were different. I this one when I woke this morning and it's persisted all day so far.

Like The Ferret, I do hope it isn't the end.

It is the same error we encountered a few days ago. For this Forum, it was the result of a technology auto-update which required me to change a setting in the master config file that manages database connectivity. See after action report:

https://cb1100forum.net/forum/showthread...#pid269543

I believe the update made things more secure by changing a default value to an explicit IP address. That is good. However, I do not see how that explicit Database IP Address entry for the Old Forum can be modified by anything other than an actual administrator doing the same thing I did. That is bad because we have no administrator there.

Let’s see if another update is pushed that reverses the change. Time will tell. David

I suspect the underlying technology change broke so many sites that the geeks had to do a hotfix to enable “default site” to work.

We will remain in our current configuration because it gives us more control and is protected from another well-intended-but-not-quite-tested-properly update Smile.

Have a great weekend. David

I haven't looked at the old forum since everyone's migrated over here.
You know what? I actually would like a pickle.
