Just got back from a 135 mile ride and was getting out of my gear. What an ordeal lol. Was wearing a Tourmaster cordura jacket, Tourmaster cordura gloves, Fieldsheer cordura riding pants, and Alpinestars motorcycle boots. Holy cow the zippers and velcro it takes to get in and out of this stuff. Riiiiip open right sleeve to coat, riiiip undo strap for right glove and remove, repeat process for other hand, riiiiip undo Velcro on front flap of coat..ziiiiiip undo zipper on front of coat, remove coat. Riiiip undo cuff of right pant leg, riiiiiip undo velcro on side flap of right pant leg, ziiiiip undo side zipper on right pant leg, repeat process for other leg. Rip undo Velcro at top of right boot, ziiip undo zipper on side of right boot, remove one boot, repeat process for other boot, riiip undo Velcro on belt on pants, snap, snap undo snaps at waist on pants, riiip undo Velcro on crotch flap, ziiip undo zipper on pants crotch, Step out of pants. Ta da..done!
What in the world did motorcyclists do before Velcro and zippers?

Probably just threw on a leather jacket and lace-up boots and that was it.

They got hurt when they went down!
Think about knights with armor suits and the chain body wear

Actually when I first started riding my jacket had big green buttons as I wore a WW2 era Army coat handed down from my older brother who was in the Army, with leather work gloves and lace up work boots. The only thing that had a zipper was my bell bottom levis lol
This new stuff IS a lot more protective, warmer, drier, and better looking I must admit

LOL, I remember riding in those old army field jackets as well. I still have one or two around here somewhere. Took a pretty good ride a while back and the zipper peeled back on a mesh jacket I have so I was riding down the road like I had a bat cape on. It was cold and I would have given a hundred dollar bill for some saftey pins. That is what you get for buying a cheap jacket make in Pakistan. And its still not fixed and still giving me trouble.

Ferret, your post made me smile as that's usually my routine too - especially in the spring and fall when it's cooler

Great description, Mickey. The layers of velcroed, zipped, or snapped closures are particularly noticeable in the men's room about an hour of riding after your morning coffee (or tea).
