Riding Pants

I've decided that I want to ride more this winter than in the past. I'm pretty well outfitted with upper body and boots but I'm looking for suggestions as far as pants goes. I'm thinking of something I can maybe wear over jeans that will protect in a slide and armored that would also cut the wind. Right now I only wear Draggin Jeans.

I know Google can be my friend but I'm asking the good folks here what works best.....suggestions?

I too, am looking forward to everyones' replies. I have enough jackets, gloves, etc but even in the cold weather months I always wear jeans. Sure would be nice to keep these old knees and "other man-parts" in the comfy zone.

Check out Olympia's stuff. They have a nice mesh pant with armor and a liner that I wear over a pair of jeans a lot. I forget their exact name, though. I bet Tourmaster and Revit also make similar products.

I had good luck with heated chaps worn under non-perforated but also unlined leather pants. This made all day riding down in the low 30's tolerable. Maybe if I had pants with an additional thermal lining it'd more comfy.

I wear my leather Dainese pants when it's below 50, probably good down to 30 degrees with mid-weight SmartWool's underneath when needed.
below that and it's not that fun for me.....and that's why I ride, for fun.

I don't ride in cold weather either and my bikes are put away for the winter by early November.
But for those cool spring and fall rides I have a pair of armored Firstgear lined overpants that are both warm and waterproof.

If you ride with overpants, or a riding suit over your street clothes, in cooler weather a good option for underneath is flannel lined jeans.

I have a pair of these Sedici pants: http://www.cyclegear.com/SEDICI-Alexi-3-...ycle-Pants that I've worn both over my jeans or simply over my under garments (use your imagination on just what those might consist of - if you guessed Under Roos, you're not far off). There is built in armor in the knees but none in the hips. It feels rather heavy duty and with the removable liner in place, it keeps me pretty warm in temps into the low 40's. We just don't see temps much colder than that where I am so I don't know how it would do when the temp dips lower than that. It has decent sized cargo pockets that close with Velcro on both legs as well as small zippered pockets on each hip. There's a zipper to attach to a jacket - something I've never attempted and zippers on each calf allowing for easy removal over boots. I've been in the rain with them and they've kept me warm and dry. I've had them for about three years and they still look new. I believe Sedici is a Cycle Gear brand and they come with a lifetime warranty.

I wear a pair of Fieldsheer overpants. They do an awesome job. Block all the wind and are armored. I wear them over my flannel lined jeans, or a pair of sweatpants. I just looked at Fieldsheer's site and it appears they are no longer available, but they are similar to these by Tourmaster. Full length side zippers for easy on off, even with boots on. Unzip the sides, step out and regular jeans underneath.. $135.
