I've read in a crash one puts their hands down automatically. Seems to make logical sense. Therefore, it couldn't hurt to have the most protection available. I kinda need to keep my hands intact if at all possible. I bought a set of these as soon as they came out and love them. I'm more worried about protection than heat. Sweaty hands are preferable to bloody hands, at least IMHO.

As others have already recommended; deerskin is my preference. Mine are non-insulated w/gaunlets.

I have not used leather gloves in years and feel that any type of leather glove is a complete no go. There is WAY too much variability in the quality and thickness of leather. leather loses a significant amount of it's tensile strength after a few wet/dry cycles (sweat/rain). Even a pair of $300 Held, or the best Lee Parks gloves will be significantly weakened after just one riding season and leather is prone to drying, cracking and fading as 99% of us do not routinely care for leather the way it should be treated with cleaners, conditioners, avoiding UV rays, etc. Leather gloves take hours to dry once soaked too. The Moto GP guys use leather because they get a brand new set every week.
The cheapo nylon gloves (i.e. Joe Rocket, Icon, etc) are as good as tissue paper and shred easily. Absolute junk.
I will only ever use Motoport Kevlar gloves. They are the best gloves money can buy, period.
Kevlar is not affected by wet/dry cycles, it does not soak up water like leather and they are usually 100% dry within 30 minutes after the rain stops, they require no attention, and they are machine washable.
The are pricey at $170, however a pair should last many years. I have two summer pair and a winter pair. I have used the same summer pair for 95% of my riding (commuting, Motocross, long distance touring) during the last 3 years and they literally still look brand new.
As a healthcare provider, my career depends on me being able to use my hands well. Therefore, nothing but Kevlar will ever cover my hands on a motorcycle until something better is discovered.

Leather....good quality and well maintained...is just fine. If you're sliding on your hands long enough to burn off a double layer of deer or elk skin, you've probably got way bigger problems than your hands.

That said, the motosprt Kevlar gloves look good....how hot are they in the summer (which is what this thread was really about)? I know a lot of riders that say their Kevlar-lined jeans are unbearably hot in the summer, so does the same apply to Kevlar gloves?

I have never thought that my gloves were any hotter in the summer than a leather or nylon glove. They have vents on them and the fabric allows the air to cool the hands so to me, they are actually cooler than leather. Plus, I absolutely hate putting on wet gloves in the morning after being caught in a evening rainstorm, and if you consider that they should last MANY years, they are actually a good value when compared to disposable $40-80 gloves.
