I'm 51, but I don't see my gear changing all that much as I get older. I always wear a helmet, jacket, gloves, pants and boots.

I have one helmet: an Arai full face model (in solid white), that I wear year round.

I have three sets of gloves, all fairly heavy-duty: a pair from Dainese that are nice, but they are wearing fairly quick (all black), a pair from Alpinestars (black/white/hi-viz yellow), and a pair from REV 'IT that are waterproof and insulated that I wear in the winter (all black).

I have two jackets: a Langlitz Leathers jacket custom made for me and I wear this most of the year. I wear a hi-viz yellow vest over the jacket I also own an Alpinestars mesh jacket in a black/hi-viz yellow combo design. I wear this only during the warmest times of the year.

I have two pairs of pants: some Langlitz leather pants that I use when I'm going to be riding out on the highway. I also own a pair of Alpinestars overpants that I wear the rest of the time that I'm out on the bike, commuting, etc.. I used to ride in jeans, but the overpants are pretty easy to live with, so I haven't ridden with just jeans in a long time.

I have one pair of boots: a pair of Dainese TRQ Tour boots. These are waterproof and use Gore-Tex so they aren't too hot in the summertime.

I also have a Kriega backpack that I use for commuting and short trips. For commuting I typically store my regular shoes in the pack along with a thermos of coffee and my laptop with a few other odd 'n ends. When I get to work I ditch the overpants and swap out the boots for my shoes.

I was thinking about one of those synthetic fiber jackets with the dayglo and all those pockets. The salesman at Gearworld tried to dissuade me -- said, something about them being for dual sport riders. I see them on U.K. riders all the time on youtube.

But HikerToo, you fit the bike in the first photo. Maybe I'll just trade my leather pants for Kevlar jeans with built-in knee protection. What brand/model of boots are those?

Carn, David, Guth's fessed up and he's younger than you, surely you can.

I'm 58 and wear a KBC full-face helmet, RST Ventilator II Jacket (which is great in our climate as it has a waterproof layer and a thermal layer that can be taken in and out as necessary), RJays Tour AM boots, jeans or kevlar jeans and DriRider lightweight gloves most of the year. For the cooler winter days I have a pair of DriRider Nordic thermal gloves.

When it's raining, which it does, albeit rarely these days, I wear waterproof jacket and overpants.

Depends on the ride. A helmet minimum is required by law in Oz.

For a lazy cruise or commute; kevlar jeans, mesh jacket (hot weather), leather paddock jacket (cool weather), boots and gloves.

Down to the shops; jeans, sports shoes minimum and no real upper protection.

For something more intense a full two piece zip together Dainese leathers set, complete with boots and good gloves. I low-sided at moderate speed not long ago with the bike protected from major damage by me, the leathers and some luckily placed soft luggage . Minimum damage to me, the leathers still wearable and the luggage basically unmarked. I asked for it and I got it - but that's a story for another time. Or maybe not

So that is my ploy. Risk assess, tailor the gear to the ride. Hope like cuss that there is not a major impact out there just waiting for me, cause if there is, that man-thong above may just be the way to go. In Candy Glory Red of course.

As a Southern Gentleman, I usually ride wearing a white plantation-style suit, a wide-brimmed hat (also usually white) and tenpenny shoes. For accessories, a string or bow tie, a silver belt, and a full goatee are always appropriate. Socks are optional, underdrawers are NOT. Avoid gold trimmings. They are, quite simply, tacky.
