I release the seat with the key, lift/loosen it a little. Why is this good (enough) ? The geometry is such that, when compared to the useless helmet lock on the left, the straps are much tighter and harder to reach when the seat is down. And the helmet's underside is firmly positioned against frame and seat. This position makes it also very hard for the goofs to leave "gifts".
Open the helmet window and drop off a "gift". Close helmet window.

Sometimes I wonder about this, but I have never experienced it nor anyone I know. I suspect you really have to be in a very bad neighbourhood, or po'd somebody off and not smart enough to leave the area.

Truth is, I haven't either. But it seems to happen. And being the lazy guy I am, I do always leave my helmet on the bike, most of the time just on the handle bar. But you know the old saying:
Every good turn deserves another.

I have had birds try to nest in the bucket, but fortunately not long enough to defecate or lay an egg. Just a few strands of straw and a feather.
