NEW HELMET
#1
Will soon need a new - full face helmet
Minimum criteria: as quit as possible, inner/adjustable sunshade and good quality.
2nd: Prefer Shoei
Do not need electronic gizmos
Please advise as per your own experience

Thanks

I can't help you with Shoei, but for me, hands down, the Aria Defiant is tops from a comfort and sound perspective. I don't know if it's marketing hype, but it's designed for naked bikes supposedly. All I know is that it is very quiet at highway speed. As to your sun shade criteria, go for the defiant pro cruise. It's actually an exterior shade, but that actually works better in my opinion, and evidently it's better from a safety standpoint. Revzilla (depending on your size and the color you want) has these at closeout prices (which is just slightly obscene in comparison to the normal completely obscene prices.)

Quick edit.... here is a link showing the shade system... the color may not be your cup of tea, but they have others...

I dont know how you feel about modulars, but I just got a Shoei Neotec 2 a couple of months back. Very high quality, but pricey. Although I have no use for it, it has the built in spaces for a dedicated Sena system...sounds like you arent interested in that either.

Supposedly it is quieter than the comparable Schuberth. I always wear ear plugs ( Earpeace brand ), so I really cant say it is noisier or quieter than any other full face or modular. I do like being able to open the chin bar to get air on my face, and the Neotec 2 has an extra semi locking detent to allow riding with the chin bar open ( which I would never do ). That said, there is good air flow through the helmet top vent, and the vent on the chin bar. All stainless steel dual chin bar locks, internal adjustable sun visor, and now there is a stainless micro ratchet chinstrap latch, instead of D rings. That ratchet is easy to insert, or release with gloves on.

Head shape fit is neutral oval. Comes with a pin lock anti fog clear insert as well. I wear a size Large, and the standard cheek pads ( 35 mm ) squeezed my face too much, so I replaced them with 31 mm pads. Stopping for gas, or talking to people with the chin bar open is much more convenient for me than taking the helmet off.

Been shopping around for a second helmet as back up for my Arai Vector 2 which is now about 4 years old. Love the Arai, would have another one in a heartbeat. Shoei is also awesome especially due the super lightweight of the GT Air, but expensive. The one that surprised me in terms of comfort and value for money was the HJC. To me the fit and comfort felt very similar to the much more expensive Shoei. The HJC RPHA 11 is in scope for my application as it's very light weight, well featured with emergency cheek pad removal tabs, and looks to be of excellent quality. The RPHA 11 is more a sports helmet so it's probably too noisy however the HJC brand is worth checking out.

I accept that some helmets are noisier than others, but none is quiet enough to mean you don’t need to wear earplugs. That being the case, I don’t understand why noise is really an issue.

Loud helmets are louder than quiet helmets while wearing earplugs as well.

I have a Shoei- shaped head, although I’ve enjoyed an Arai helmet or two. My current full face is a Shoei X14, and it is comfortable and of high quality. I particularly love the Transitions visor, which darkens and lightens per conditions, and has superb optical quality.

I have a Schubert’s C3 modular, quiet and solid, but after an hour plus, the pressure point on the forehead gets me. I’m about to buy an AGV Sport Modular or a KLIM 1200 modular, both seem to fit my specs.

I have a Shoei RF-1200. I really like the fit. No hot spots and comfortable to wear for hours. I had an HJC previously. It was okay, but not on par with the Shoei.

Quiet: It's not the quietest over 40 mph with all the vents open in the summer. However, on the advice of some fellow forum members, I've started riding with the chin curtain all the time. That cut down the noise. I always ride with earplugs.

Sun: I ride with prescription polarized driving glasses. Sorry I can't help you out, there.

A while back, I rode a buddy's bike which has a full fairing with a tall windscreen. I was quite surprised by how much quieter it was than my CB1100.
