Insurance issues
#1
Can anyone tell me what a good comparable bike would be for insurance purposes? My insurance agent doesn't have the CB in their system and is trying to use a 2013 Honda CB1000R, at a tune of $897.64/year coverage. WTH? Talk about apples and oranges...100 more HP???

I pay a lot less than that for my 2011 Ducati Monster 796! Angry

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Huh

I use State Farm and the bike isn't in their system yet either. They went out to Honda's website and looked at the bike along with some of Honda's other offerings of similar displacement. They came back with a rate of $302/yr. with $100/$250 deductibles (comp/coll).

I believe the CB1100 is in the systems of GEICO and Progressive as I looked into their online estimators a while back to try and get an idea of what I might expect to be paying.

I have everything insured with Farmers (Foremost for the motorcycles). The CB11 is costing me $245/year for $100/$300 full coverage w/$1000 deductible--less to insure than my 2012 CBR600RR.

Hmmm, your agent is way off base if he's comparing it to the 1000R. I insured mine with Progressive before they had it in their system and they charged $215/year. Insurance is pretty cheap in N. Dakota.

This is what State Farm requoted me at, based on MSRP, year and displacement:

POLICY COVERAGES AS FOLLOWS:
ANNUAL
LIMITS PREMIUM
BODILY INJURY AND 100/300/100 $122.40
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY
COMPREHENSIVE $100 DEDUCTIBLE ACV $122.80
COLLISION $250 DEDUCTIBLE ACV $424.75
UNDERINSURED MOTOR VEHICLE 100/300/100 $106.26
TOTAL OF 12 MONTH PREMIUM $776.21
MONTHLY PREMIUM (SERVICE CHARGE NOT INCLUDED) $64.68

Does that seem pretty high? Although we do have low deductibles...Dodgy

Using body style SC65, my State Farm agent provided full coverage at ~550 per year.

I don't know what SC65 is, I read it here or on the UK board, and I noticed it is part of the VIN

Insurance depends on so many factors: age of riders, MSF training, daily driver or pleasure only, driving record, deductibles, coverage limits and where you live. I would go to Progressive and see what you get as a reasonable comparison. I ended up going with the company that has everything else. It cost me a bit more than Progressive but not a ton. Unlike Progressive, this company did not have CB in it. When I spoke to the agent and were determining the price, we had three choices for bike type: Cruiser, Supersport or Other. We picked other. I know Supersport would have been a lot higher and the agent said Cruiser would have been lower (but not by a ton). Maybe your agent looked at the Honda website where the CB is listed as a Sport bike and chose a Sport bike option that killed the rates. Probably worth checking

I just received my bill from Foremost with 250k/500k/100k and $500 deductible for col. and comp and $3,500 coverage for optional equipment plus towing/roadside assistance for a total of $136. A sizable multiple bike discount is reflected in that price. I switched to Foremost 2 years ago when I discovered that their policy was 60% less than my Progressive policy. I live in south central Florida if that makes a difference. Might be worth checking out foremost.
