So, I've been using the Brake Free light on my commuting helmets daily, but, since you can't see the back of your own head, I've always wondered how well it works, particularly for subtle braking, rather than death-grip, hard G braking.

Yesterday for the first time, I saw another rider with one of these lights, and yes indeed, it does work. My video file is too big to post, but here's a still. I'm buzzing along at prevailing freeway speed, around 75, when I saw this guy coming up quick in my mirror. He passed me going at least 90, and got on his brakes a bit to duck in front of the red car in front of me. Indeed, the light came to full bright as he slowed, and then went back to the dimmer taillight mode when he matched speed with the red car.
