I tend to really get into the music when I do listen. I "live the era". The problem for me is that would distract me from what is passing by while riding. These are two different grooves for me.

How do you guys get all the music on your phones?
I have lots of songs that I downloaded years ago from the Napster era. Are you buying them off iTunes and Amazon or do you have another trick? Went on a on a computer I use YouTube for my playlist. Of course that is out of the question when writing and maybe without internet.

Years of converting CDs.
CDs are your fallback when other cloud sources charge $ and the quality is capped, or your hard drive crashes, or you blew away your digital back-ups, or the compression algorithms go out-of-style, yadda, yadda, and yadda.

offroad, what sort of phone do you have? If it's an iPhone, you'll have to load the tunes into iTunes on your computer and then get them across to your phone. Lots of tunes requires lots of phone memory. You won't have to re-purchase them; iTunes can load music files from your computer
I'm not sure how you do it on an Android phone. I think you just plug it in and copy them over.

Most of the time I listen to a Pandora station I’ve crafted and named “Blackpanmegakorn”.
Black Sabbath Pantera Megadeath Korn Tempo is all over the place and it gets aggressive, but the beat always seems to bring me clarity of mind. It’s strange to me to ride without tunes.

I use no cloud services. Drag 'n' drop the files directly onto the device mounted as a directory. That's it. (Android)
The cloud controls a lot. It can leave my "More Than a Feeling" alone.

An extensive CD collection ported over and some purchases off iTunes. My phone has 60 (?) some gig in memory. Lots of space for music.

The newer android phones are literally plug and play. on my samsung s4, s5, s6, s8, moto g6, they all come with a built in music player app. On the app, there's buttons to view all the music files located anywhere inside the phone, or on the micro sd card. So once the songs reside in the phone and/or sd card, then there's your music to select and listen. Super easy, imo. My go to button on my samsung is the one that shows "recently downloaded" songs. I'm constantly adding new songs, so this button points me directly to the latest songs i uploaded. I use this button 99% time. But if you have an iphone, which i know very little about....i think they're much more restrictive on how you bring in/load your files. I think you have to use apple's software on a computer to get your iphone to accept the downloading.

Thanks 562 for starting this great thread, which could possibly help us old timers rediscover long, lost rock classics and perhaps introduce us to some new gems.
Not a playlist but three for your enjoyment tonight : Bron-yr-aur-stomp - Led Zeppelin Don't matter to Me - Lemmy Going to my Hometown - Rory Gallagher John in the UK |
