The shortest day of the year has passed. From now 'til June 21, more daylight. I mentally celebrate December 21st as the very early start of a new riding season. Of course, that's weeks out, but we're on the path ...... we've started once again!

Yes, it's only getting better. Better every day now. I can feel it.

Jan and Feb can get real dicey for riding here in SW Ohio, although this year I only missed 12 daus in January and 1 day in February, but that is really unusual. The days getting longer is encouraging however.

I agree -- 12/21 is the first day of summer as I look at it, not the first day of winter. Around here, we stay cold through April. We can get 50 degree F days in January but February is usually nasty and March / April are by far the snowiest months. The passes begin to open by late May / early June but you really can't count on good riding weather until late June and even then, you can be surprised by sudden changes in the weather in the mountains.

I don't mind the cold in February because it is usually dry and sunny.
March is a tease. There are some mild spells and everyone gets excited about spring. Then we get dumped by a number of wet snow storms.
April is ugly with bare trees and dead brown grass and plants. No snow, but it is still too cold to ride comfortably.
I'll wait till May to start riding again. At lease the leaves on the trees have started to open after the first week.

Lol I have never considered southern Ohio exactly tropical, but compared to where you guys live it seems like it is.

It is a crap shoot from year-to-year. However, Nortoon does have more inconvenience compared to "southern" Ontario (and more than his fair share of road salt).
