When I worked I use to walk for 45 minutes during my lunch hour to keep my weight down. Half way through my walk I would stop at a street vendor for a Bratwurst in a bun. One day I pulled my Little Fat Book from my shirt pocket and found out sausages were about 80% fat. Switched to soup and a sandwich after that.

One of my friends use to work at a meat packing plant (we all know one I suspect), you just show him a hot dog and he turned green, LOL, he loved meat, but would not think of eating a hot dog.
When I was in Germany, there were little sausage stands out in the country we would come across. Easily the best bratwurst ever! But I suspect they make them a bit different than we do.
Sorry to be a bit off topic there....I like the Honda wing in the BMW picture, how did that slip thru?

Germans don't waste much. I also love bologna. Ate a bologna sandwich on gluten free bread yesterday. What is in bologna? As we Germans like to say "everything but the squeal". lol

Ferret: At most of these 'hot dog rides', I am the youngest person there. Yesterday, we met at Portillo's (a famous Chicago fast-food chain) and there were a few folks that were under age 50. Once the summer hits, there are usually younger riders that show up.
Non-Chicagoans: Hot Dog joints are pretty big in Chicago (and Milwaukee and in the Midwest, generally). Swift, Armour, Vienna, Oscar Mayer, and at least a few others all were based in Chicago for decades, most since the late 1800s. This may explain the popularity of encased meats in our area OR perhaps the popularity of sausage within the immigrant communities that settled in Chicago (especially German and Polish) lead to the Chicago becoming "hog butcher for the world". In any case, I didn't eat at Portillo's yesterday nor do I usually at these rides since I prefer having dinner with my wife at home. I do like hot dogs though and I eat them in moderation and mostly either "Chicago Style" or with Skyline chili, onions, and shredded cheese on top; the latter due to a friend in Cincinnati who occasionally sends me a can of Skyline.

Only hotdog place around here is Der Wiener Schnitzel. Old skool franchise from way back. Stop there whenever I leave my dentists office because 1) I happen to like them but they are out of the way but close to my dentist and 2) you don’t need teeth to eat anything they sell and that comes in handy after dental work.

I ate Wiener Schnitzel and pom fritas (which is not a hot dog btw) for 9 days straight when Di and I went to Europe. Any meal I had to buy, it was wiener schnitzel and pom fritas lol except one day I ate a chicken sandwich with pineapple which turned out to be a funny story I may tell at the rally..

I forgot to mention, that knuckle sandwich restaurant I mentioned the other day did have a 1/2 lb hotdog!

Alice Coopers restaurant in Phoenix serves a big hot dog, has to be a pound. It's called the "Big Unit" LOL
