Most dangerous time of day to ride?
#21
Other than animals, challenges are intersections (vehicle turning in front of bike), lane changes (into your lane), compounded by sun in the eyes of oncoming drivers.

That corresponds to multi lane roads, early morning hurry to get to work drivers. Evening riding may involve drivers under the influence. Although I have seen UI drivers mid-mornings.

Distracted car drivers
More than one half of my riding (by time) is in urban, somewhat dense traffic conditions.
I suggest it is worth learning how to use the horn judiciously while riding a motorcycle in such conditions. Judiciously - that 1/10 of a second sound blast. You simply must ride with the assumption that if he or she has a plausible reason to turn left in front of you, he or she will. And more likely than not, he or she is blissfully ignorant of your very existence. I wouldn't do it when lane splitting though. It just generates bad blood.

I think another correlation is the direction of travel along with time of day. If you're riding into the sun, whether it's morning or evening, it's much harder to see the actions of vehicles in front of you, and it's much harder for the vehicles behind you to see your actions. So, if you live west of where you work, maybe don't commute by motorcycle in heavy traffic. You'll be riding into the sun both ways.

My commute is north in mornings and south in afternoons. I'm finding my ride home becoming more difficult the later it gets in the year, because the sun is farther south in the sky and causes quite a bit of glare in the late afternoon. I wear amber polarized driving glasses, which help. I'm betting most of the drivers around me don't, because it makes it harder to read the screen while texting Wink
