Lol. The ferret can spot a RLET/lack there of from a mile away.

Let's be clear about this: Honda owes its entire aftermarket sale of RLETs to The ferret!

Cormanus, Remember when Ferret caused a (US) nationwide sellout of RLETS? And then Ridem32 bought out what was left? I bought a spare pair because of that... Smile

The real question is, where does one find RLETs for these tiny CBs...?

Don’t know yet where to get tiny RLETS, but I did do 2017EX’s mod yesterday Smile

Popgun, did you find the same "next to nothing" threaded shank on the tiny screw eye when you removed it, or was mine just an anomaly?

EX, I found the same thing. In fact, at first I though the shank had broken off. I guess they cut it as it was flatish (is that a word?) on the bottom and only had a thread or two left.

Exactly what I found! At first I thought the screw shank had been glued as well as screwed, resulting in some of the shank snapping off and remaining in the hole when I unscrewed it. Looking in the hole with a magnifying glass, I saw no snapped off shank in the hole. I think you are correct, and exactly what I thought, i.e., they took a screw eye and snipped off some shank length. What little is left of the threaded shank will probably fail to support the model at some point, used as a Christmas tree ornament as a result. On the other hand, the small hole in the seat where the screw eye was mounted is barley noticeable for desk, shelf model use.

I do. I’ve also heard tell that Ridem32 is now a very rich man, largely from the outrageous mark-up on the resale of rare RLETs. Big Grin

I’ve a spare set somewhere too, although I’ve no idea why I would ever need them.

Cormanus, a little piece of trivia to add. My riding buddy back in the day had the first year sand cast CB750 Four. In 1974, I bought a new 750 Four, and by that time Honda had done away with RLETs. I bought a pair of RLETS for my bike. My Father and I struggled for over an hour trying to figure out how to install them, and finally gave up. We did not know the soapy water trick, in combination with boiling them in water to heat, expand, and soften the rubber so that they could be pushed on. Then too, there were no Forums, no internet, and no youtube to find out how to do it.

I do remember seeing RLETS, particularly on the clutch side, of bikes that had RLETs ( other Hondas besides the 750 had RLETs ), where the RLET was worn through, exposing the aluminum of the lever. The wear through was usually on the stem of the RLET, and/or the ball of the RLET adjacent to the stem. That wear through was dependent on how much the bike was used, hand position, and whether or not the riders gloves had any abrasive/friction characteristics rubbing against the RLET. Could wear through be why Honda did away with them? Who knows. Now, at least for me, the RLET is a nostalgic cosmetic accessory, and I smile whenever I look at mine, or see them on someones elses bike.

Given the small cost for a pair VS the big enjoyment factor, being picky about my bike being clean looking, plus knowing about possible wear through, I have a spare set. So, all of the above might answer your question as to why you might need your spare pair. If cost effective, it is better to have and not need, than need and not have IMHO. Smile
