Brazil

I read this morning that MotoGP will be returning to Brazil after an 18 year absence. I think they are on the calendar for 2021 to 2026.

Got me curious about the state of motorcycling in Brazil

I don't think we have any Brazilian CB1100 forum members.

Not sure how big or populated Brazil is, but I did read nearly 1,000,000 (a million if I have enough zeros lol) motorcycles were sold in Brazil last year. (About twice as many as sold in the US by all manufacturers combined from what I gather.)

Assume they are mostly 350cc and smaller units.

Honda sold 775,000 of them.

crazy huh?

There’s 210,354,000 people in Brazil. I think there are also more people there who speak Portuguese than all the other Portuguese-speaking countries combined.

When I was in South America (Chile and Peru) some years ago the bigger cities were teeming with middleweight motorcycles - 350 and smaller.
Most were Chinese knock-offs with names like Takasaki, Centurion and many other odd names that I don't remember now.
Honda has a factory in Brazil so they were also in abundance.

They have lots of race tracks too. I had to map the coordinates of each of them last year for a telemetry project. Gave one the impression that it's compulsory for every Brazilian child to be put in a go kart at a young age to see if they are the next Ayrton Senna.

By the way, every other race track in Brazil has the word Senna in the name...
