I just bought a new (to me) film scanner this past weekend and have been playing around with it in my spare time over the past few days. Seeing how you were a Bob Hannah fan back in the day, I thought you might enjoy this photo that I took back in 1978 at the Trans-AMA event held at Red Bud in Buchanan, MI. This photo seems oh-so-appropriate as Hannah went on that year to become the first American to ever win the series that began in 1970. He would also be the last American to win as it turns out — 1978 was the final year of existence for Trans-AMA before it was morphed into the Trans-USA series.

The guy who won the series the previous 4 years? "The Man", Roger De Coster of course...

By the way, I can't recall if any other races that I attended in my youth featured a parade lap as seen in these images. These are the only such photos that I have of this sort in my personal archives. Perhaps this was specific to the Trans-AMA series?

Thanks Cormanus. The scans aren't too bad, especially when considering that the photo equipment I was using as a kid wasn't exactly of the best quality (of course neither was the photographer, lol).

I've got more slides yet to scan and will hopefully add those images over the next few coming days.

As far as the scanner goes, there's probably a young person around who would love to have it. Much like vinyl record album playback, film photography is enjoying somewhat of a resurgence, especially with younger folks.

This thing my wife bought me a couple years ago, takes " real" pictures and scans them into the computer...I think. Like I said I've never even opened the box, I have tens of thousands of real photos and scanning them all in sounded like way too much work for me. Then I lost 25 years of pics from my computer files and figured having the old hard pics was better anyway lol

For some reason, my MX hero was the Belgian Joel Robert. He raced with DeCoster on the factory TM250 and TM400 in the early ‘70’s. I never saw either of these guys in person but the memories are great!

Saw Denny Swartz at vintage mx few weeks ago. Still fast and showing the way in the 60+ class. Still lives in Marietta coincidentally.
