Still; tough to lose friends (but better than seeing them killed off).

I still think we can pull our fully retired family and friends along in an augmented reality way, just not at this moment. Maybe a few more years.

Consider this:

Down the road in life, would you want to do the daily ritual of going downstairs and choosing a lunch desert between apple sauce or sliced peaches with other residents and talk about the weather (yet again)?

Or join your buddy/son/grandson in an augmented way while he winds through the backroads of Kentucky all-in-the-while communicating live and sharing the experience?

Thanks - I hope I am right and the timing is such that we at the Forum and opt to enjoy it. The technology exists today and is not a hard thing to do or is overly expensive to develop (compared to other big enterprise services). The question remains is does business agree there is demand? Of course, it wouldn't just be motorcycling. It could apply to many experiences like: Rock climbing, sky diving, deep sea diving, ... heck ... space walking, moon walking, Mars walking.

I understand that these words might be of little consolation but here goes. We tend to have a variety of friends and acquaintances in life. Some of those relationships are developed early on in life and carry on late into life. Others are short lived, but special in their own way. Still others revolve around a shared passion and all of the experiences that come with that common bond. In this case while you haven't lost your friend, the common bond that tied you together has been lost. Those trips you regularly shared that were important to you are over. It's almost like losing a part of yourself. You could find other riding buddies to go on trips with and while those trips might be great, they just wouldn't be the same. That can be a tough thing to face. I say that it's better to have had all of those experiences that the two of you did only to see them end seeming prematurely rather than to not have had them at all. The two of you really enjoyed riding together — that's what makes it such a bummer. Ironically I consider you to be a lucky guy for having had that in your life. I'll also note that your buddy was pretty lucky to have you as a riding partner as well.

UPDATE:

HE'S BAAAACK! My riding buddy JNOR that is. (Read 1st post in thread to understand)

Got back in to it innocently enough. He was helping a buddy pick up a car that his buddy bought and noticed a motorcycle front wheel in the garage. Asked the guy what kind of bike he had. Guys says Yamaha, want to buy it? Jnor walked over to look at it. It was a 2002? Yamaha FZ-1, with light damage from a low side. How much? $100.00. Yea I want it! LOL. Figured his wife who didn't want him to ride anymore was going to give him holy he**, but figured if he did have to sell it, he could at least make some coin. She did give him some grief, quite a bit for awhile, but eventually gave in so he gets to keep it.

So he bought it, took it home, fired right up, ran fine. Replaced the damaged stuff with parts off ebay for a few hundred bucks and he was back in the motorcycle riding business. I gave him some of his own gear back that he had given me when he quit..couple of jackets, some gloves, a tail pack. He had not gotten rid of his helmet yet., and picked up some riding pants on ADV rider cheap.

So today we met for lunch so he could show it to me.

we took a little ride after lunch

He texted me after he got home and said he forgot how much fun riding a motorcycle was.

Not holding my breath that this will last, but for now HE'S BAAAACK!" lol

That's fun! My regular riding buddies both moved last year. We still ride on vacations, but I can't shoot them a text early on a Saturday morning that says "Ride today?" I hope you enjoyed your day. Where was lunch?

Denny's Restaurant about 20 miles south of Columbus on I 71. It's half way between his house and mine (about 80 miles one way for each of us.)

We don't get to take spur of the moment rides. Like you, we have to plan trips lol.
