Americas cup sailing
#1
If anyone is interested in sailing ( if you can call it that ) this is happening in my backyard, it is the preliminary to the real series and may be worth watching;

Streaming live and available afterwards etc.
Having fun shooting video of these teams with my new nikon p950 along the course, no match for the tv teams footage but fun to come home and watch my results on the pc.

LOL@ “if you can call it that”.

My office is decorated with AC posters from the 12 Meter era, when America’s Cup sailing was more relatable to this small boat sailor.

This print is of the 1964 Cup Race in Newport.

I sailed for a lot of years in various places and when I lived in San Diego (born there) I could see Dennis Conner from my anchored boat (that I lived on) putting both his 12 meter and his winged catamaran through their paces. Those new cats are amazing and NZ is a great place to sail.

I have a poster someplace depicting that first catamaran in the America's Cup. The new cats are amazing and soooo fast. I enjoy watching them race, but it's so much different than my Laser II that I sailed when I was still lightweight enough for it to make headway.

When I received my induction into the awful job of being a moderator, my superiors took a great deal of trouble to instil in me an appreciation of the fact that this is a motorcycle forum and discussions which have no connection whatsoever to motorcycles or motorcycling should be brought to a halt. From the excellent example set by the Ferret, I came to understand that this rule could be generously interpreted

In the case of a post only about a yacht race that has become a testing ground more esoteric even than the MotoGP, I think I could be forgiven for wondering how I could allow it to persist.

Fortunately it was easy. The only other activity in my life that gives me as much pleasure as riding a motorcycle is sailing. Although one is powered entirely by nature and the other by the ICE, they both enable the participant to engage with the wind to achieve a serenity not achievable in a humdrum daily existence. Of course the America's Cup is to sailing what the RC213V is to the CB1100 and ordinary motorcycling, but it's still sailing.

For me, the America's Cup has never been the same since the abandonment of the 12-metre class. Fairly or unfairly, I've always put that down to a northern hemisphere petulance that an upstart mob from down under managed to wrest the Auld Mug to the other hemisphere inducing a determination to buy it back by pricing opposition out of the market. I stayed awake all night to watch the deciding race.

It remains only to say two things.

First, thanks Max. I'll look forward to looking at the videos. The catamarans are truly extraordinary.

Secondly, I'll look forward to the continuation of this conversation about the connections between motorcycling and sailing.

Lol sailing huh?

Chuckk would probably tow his sailboat to the water with his CB 1100

( and that's how you tie the two subjects together lol )

No need to tow, he would just sail from California directly to NZ...only 11K kms
