Harley Shutting down in India
#61
I've never owned nor ridden a Harley Davidson; nor is it likely I will. But I hope the company survives and prospers. I hope that, as it does, it is able to continue to produce at least some of its traditional line. They are—in the peculiar usage of our time—iconic and the world would be a poorer place for their loss.

Even if the worst comes to the worst, I doubt they'll all go to scrap. Harley lovers will continue to ride them while they can and then labour over them lovingly to keep the marque alive. Who knows, the equally passionate [insert brand/style of bike here] lovers may even even be able to get together with them to reminisce about the days when bikes had internal combustion engines and riders of different brands and styles of bikes were locked in tiresome rivalries.

The upcoming Pan America seems promising. If it's in the same price range as other ADV bikes, that is.

I think H-D's plans for smaller water cooled motors will likely save the brand. Again, if they don't price themselves out of the market.

Young people don't care about grandpa's biker fashion. H-D shoulda realized that 15 years ago.

Actually I am quite interested in their LiveWire until they announced the price. Seems they went straight to the premium range. HD had always been lacking in the mid price range competition, which I believe is more profitable. The Japanese and Chinese are king in the mid and low end market. And with current global economy climate, premium brand motorcycle are going to suffer more... Seems like HD keep steering into right direction with wrong strategy.

Peter , I do not know why the red mark is on my Post , perhaps a red light ?
I of course also hope that HD survives if even only for the after market industries but my "sense " of humor might give other people the wrong impression.

Houtman, I found in the New Reply box, if you click on an icon(actually the blank circle to the left of it) at the top, the POST no icon button clears and an icon you select appears.

Notice the bug I selected.

OK, now seriously, the worse is that people who work directly or indirectly for the H-D industrie will loose their jobs and won't be able to support their families, especially now during C-19 times.
The top management should find some solution that will elevate them back on the road...not easy task

Why yes, coincidentally, Muffy and I were just enjoying a couple of Harley Davidson wine coolers after tennis, along with some fondue. Later on we may jump into the hot tub, open a couple more wine coolers, and put a Barry Manilow tape in the Walkman.

Ooh, it's getting just a bit cool for just our Lacoste shirts. Muffy can throw her sweater over her shoulders, tie the sleeves up front, but I'll run inside and grab my Members Only jacket, and better check the answering machine too.....
