Not many new 2021 models being launched
#1
Hi all. Just out of curiosity I had a look online at 2021 new models being released for the big four (Honda, Yam, Suz & Kaw) and then Triumph and RE. To be honest there’s not a lot going on and I don’t know whether it’s Corona/ shifting buying trends/ insurance costs or what but there’s really not much being released. In the UK Euro 5 has killed off loads of bikes in a stroke and it doesn’t appear there’s any action to replace the broad range we enjoyed before. Regarding Honda I actually thought some pages were missing off their official UK site because it seemed so Spartan. Goldwing, Africa Twin, CB1000, CBR650 and smaller scootery stuff. Pretty much it.

Only RE seemed to be actively going after it with new designs that will no doubt sell very well.

I think their might be a derogation on Euro V, possibly to suit the Italians, the new Ducati V4S is not Euro V yet. So if Honda have still got stocks of the CB1100 they may well still get to sell it for a while, it has not gone from their website either. If there was no derogation it should not be for sale as the 12 month grace period has expired. Triumph seem to be selling every Tiger 900 they can make as I know a few people after them and the dealer is struggling to get quotas. They have large orders stacked up for the new Trident too so I think they are busy enough.

You are right: it seem mainly RE and Triumph who show some ambition. Other than that, there is not much to get excited about. The mysterious Honda 1100X might be presented in 2021 but I doubt it will be available in the showrooms this year. KTM and Husqvarna are working on some new models (but nothing too fancy, except perhaps a Husqvarna Norden). Kawasaki is supposed to unveil a new KLR650 bike later this month. And of course there is Harley Davidson with their new Pan America: a BMW GS1250 rival that comes 20-30 years too late.
I cannot get too excited about the new Ducati Monsters, but perhaps that is just me expecting something truly NEW in the motorcycle world. Same for the new Honda and Kawa dual sports, or the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT: more of the same.

I have some hopes for a new Moto Guzzi model, to celebrate their 100-year existence, although there have not been any 'spyshots' or even rumours regarding a new 'Le Mans' model. Their sister-brand Aprilia might bring out a new off-roader: the Tuareg, based on their new 660cc engine. That could be a big seller, considering how popular the Yamaha T700 is, and all reviewers were in love with the Aprilia RS660.

Royal Enfield can probably "smell blood" and are making their market share move.

Aprilia could surprise; they seem to have good quality offerings in the past.

Hm, just had a look, e.g. the Interceptor is also only Euro 4.

Playing it safe? Following "the crowd" when it comes to meeting standards? Not planning to expand aggressively after all?

Likely our bike will be replaced with that new monoshock cb they patented a couple years ago. The one many people were guessing would be like a "cb1000f". It was teased with the silver and blue paint job of the old school cb900f

I'm in the process of making a video on CB1100 cost of ownership (2017 and on models) and while looking at the valve service intervals I compared them to the Royal Enfield 650. It will of had three valve services by the time the on EX/RS has one at 12K miles. They want one at the first service then every 6K miles. Granted it is 2 cylinders less and simple locknut and screw so nothing too onerous. The RE owners manual does have the cheek to state that the valve service is mandatory every year even if the bike has not achieved the mileage! I don't think many owners are going to fall for that one, it must be the version with the evaporating valve stems.
