I reckon Frulk meant to write, " ... 88 cu. inches ... ". (about 1450 cc)

After 30+ years of owning Hondas, I had a hankering for a Harley. Got a 2005 (carburated) Sportster....I know, there are those that don't consider Sporsters REAL Harleys. I liked the gearing, belt drive, power. I disliked the skinny front tire, the oil drain system, separate oils, minuscule indicator lights, forward control riding position, the noise, lack of center stand, and some others that I just can't remember. Went back to Honda after about three seasons with the Harley.

^^^ And those are legitimate criticisms of a particular model by an owner with years in the saddle of the model being discussed. They do not stereotype an entire company’s offerings. My daughter has a Sportster. The gauges are at best described as minimalistic. I can’t read the numbers on them without my glasses. The indicator lights are difficult to see in broad daylight. The CB1100 is definitely more refined and comfortable to ride in town and across the open road. I’m not an apologist for Harley. They can get things wrong and sometimes do. Just like any other brand does.

First, the record has been corrected, Frulk, and your post now shows 88 cubic inches.

Secondly, Wagonpeddler’s and Frulk’s criticisms of the Sportster are subjective — it had features they don’t like. For others it’s probably a fine bike.

And that’s the point. There’s nothing wrong with not liking something. But that doesn’t make it objectively bad. It makes no sense to condemn a marque that has been largely successful over many years and which continues to attract more than enough buyers to stay in business. No-one is obliged to like it; but dislike does not equal bad.
