End the Black Wheel Tyranny: Free the Motos!
#1
Enough already! For the life of my I cannot grasp this aesthetic. I can't tell you how much of a turn-off it is to me. When I see a new bike where the only wheel color is black, it's an immediate "Move on, nothing to see here." I don't care of the bike fulfills 99% of my checklist, there's just no way.

If you are into black wheels, or at least accepting of them, more power to you. I wish it worked for me, I really do. But, it's like putting [url=https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Kate+Beckinsale&t=opera&iax=images&ia=images]Kate Beckinsale in Carhartt coveralls and an arc welding mask...just no!

I really want to grab the silver wheels off of a '14 Deluxe to replace the black ones on my '13, but I think I read somewhere here that they aren't compatible.

I am wondering if it is a cost-cutting measure?

I have been reading about folks immediately replacing their wheels with expensive aftermarket alternatives and selling the OEMs.

I agree. Silver wheels are so much more appealing.

tj_gee, I can't find it right at the moment, but there's been a discussion about this recently. I think the axle size changed between 2013 and 2014. It's beyond me, but I can't imagine it's an insurmountable problem for the competent.

Cormanus, I saw that same conversation and cannot for the life of me find it again.

Yeah that's the issue. The axle size and all corresponding hardware changed from 13 to 14, so the wheels are not interchangeable.

Why not just strip the black paint off of your existing wheels and repaint them?

At the rear wheel of either 2013, the 25mm axle causes problems compared to the 20mm on the later bikes. You would need to use the later 20mm axle and chain adjusters, and make spacers where the axle passes through the swingarm - with a 2.5mm wall thickness, they would be a little fragile. Or use a later swingarm. You'd also need to use the sprocket drive flange and spacers from the later bike.

Randy's right - just paint your wheels.

That is very disparaging of black wheels, some bikes suit them, my old Daytona for instance. And even the Tiger has black rims WITH black spokes Tongue
