Race to the Clouds..motorcycles now banned
#1
Just read that motorcycles will no longer be permitted in the "Race to the Clouds" race at Pike's Peak

Ducati racer Carlin Dunn's death in the 2019 race being the causal factor.

Shame to hear it, so far you are still allowed to ride the Auto Road to the top of Mt. Washington where Travis Pastrana set the record for the hill climb.

I've done it a few times by car, bike, and tank in the winter lol.

Personal responsibility yet again taken from those that take personal responsibility. Thank god the Isle of Man doesn't take this attitude. The modern era and modern governments seem to thrive on trying to remove all risk in life. When they fully succeed and ban any dangerous activity, like riding motorcycles at all, life won't be worth living.

People can still ride up Pikes Peak on a motorcycle, there will just be no motorcycles allowed in the annual race to the top of Pike's Peak.

It is not a government regulation that bans motorcycles in that race. It's the race event promoters who felt the rewards not worth the risks, either physically or monetarily.

If others wanted to get the rights for a motorcycle race up Pikes Peak, they are welcome to pursue that.

There's the old axiom, "Every rule has a name behind it."
In this case I expect it's "Every regulation has a lawsuit and several lawyers behind it."

I think it's New York that they say regulations are written in blood.

Lately they have decided we don't need regulations and the blood is beginning to flow again.

It's easy to say personal responsibility being taken away; but people forget that someone else has to clean up the mess left behind. We have a local hill (Yarnell Hill) that bikers like to bomb. Law Enforcement tends to watch it carefully because they don't like dealing with the aftermath of mistakes - anymore than anyone else.

So have fun out there, but be considerate of the folks that may have to render aid in the event you blunder.

I took this pic of my buddy coming down Pike's Peak in July 2020. I never finished my ride report for that Colorado trip, but without question that Pike's Peak run was absolutely the highlight and capstone of the entire ride. We went late in the day when it was partly cloudy and getting cooler at the peak, so traffic was minimal and we had a stunning ride up and down that mountain.

I have a friend from NYC who said, "You know why there's a law against spitting in the water fountain? Because in a city the size of NY, at some point in time some @$&*^%! was spitting in the water fountain!"

Born and raised in NY. Most of the laws here are written by people that know nothing about the subject matter they're writing laws about lol.
