CB in the Blue Ridge Area
#1

I will post here a collection of boring videos of a CB1100 hundred chasing a Mini Cooper all over the blue ridge mountains. there won't be any sound because I discovered early on that the sound consisted entirely of wind noise. cheap camera. what can i say?

first up: A CB in an environment not altogether suited to it. who needs an ADV bike?

https://youtu.be/xalyhRptLKQ
next up: A CB chasing a Mini Cooper up Hwy 276 at moderate speeds

https://youtu.be/cOdSKlGYOTA

Afterwards, some time was spent on the BRP. actually, A lot of time was spent on the BRP, but i wasn't about to record all of it. Here's a stretch of road we ran almost entirely uninterrupted by slow drivers.

https://youtu.be/RDZpAZ3WLzE
our run on hwy 80 (the Devil's Whip) was not recorded due to technical difficulties.
Finally, one of a couple of runs we did on 226A, the Diamondback. This was the only one that was almost entirely unencumbered. i'm not the fastest rider, but this felt really good.

Enjoyed the vids. Good camera angle imo. Showed the roads both in front and in the rear view mirror, showed the speeds, the gears, and you wree able to get a feeling for the ride.

You don't have to be the fastest rider, to enjoy a good road on a motorcycle.

Thanks. i'm sure by lap 3 I could take these turns a little harder, but i figured it'd be safer to put my wife in the mini in front than to have her behind me. I was content to just keep my speeds moderate, maintain distance from her, and focus on entering and exiting the turns in the smoothest way.

also, I will make another excuse for the 226A video: I got stung by a wasp about 1/4 of the way up, right on the neck. if you watch you'll see my head jerk at a certain moment, the thing just dive bombed me as i went into a turn.

The camera was on my chin of course, but i had a heck of a time finding a way to mount it that was totally stable.

Nice job mister! I was just up there a couple of weeks ago, and this video really captures the experience well. I'm blessed to have this essentially in my "back yard"! And, I think it's tremendous fun on the CB.

really, A-man, i'm not a church-going guy, but the mountains on a bike are the closest thing I have to "church." It really is the one bad thing I have to say about Charleston. we have almost no good roads. barely any. you might be able to find a stretch of 2 miles or so here or there where there are some moderate curves, but it's called the Low country for a reason. riding 300 miles up to Asheville is almost the only thing I've got if i want a good riding experience.

heck, I pay for a whole tire, and only use the middle. i've been thinking of putting car tires on my CB because they might as well be flat anyway. but in the smokies, i get to use the whole PR3 contact patch, and it's really something. If there is anywhere else i can travel to without taking a month-long vacation to get a ride like that, I'm going to start planning for it.

Alas, though, i've looked at a map. there isn't any place quite like WNC.

You probably have to at least double your 80 k to even start finding something around here and close to Asheville it will be a lot more.
