Thanks for the photos! I find them very timely because the 21 year old daughter of a Costa Rican family I am good friends with is currently spending 3 months with a French family in Marseille. It's a neat story in that the CR family is of limited economic means but the French family invited the gal to spend time with them so she could learn French and help out with their children. I was there in CR recently when they all returned to France together. The young lady was soooo excited--happy to travel, but terrified of the cold. She had never been more than a couple hours from home and never for more than 1 night.

The area looks more dry than I imagined--rugged and beautiful!
