Great VLJ. I guess I don't experience the same buffeting effect using the Marlin Dart. It could be my helmet - but I doubt it. I do sit a bit high on the bike and that could be just enough of a difference.
Yes, severing neck on tall wind screens for me has been an issue in the past - usually when lazily mounting the bike lol.

-that giddy feeling when your UPS package arrives
-that giddy feeling when you've bolted everything up, and there were no unused nuts or screws
-warmer in winter
-protection against rocks and other road debris
-reduced wind fatigue on the freeway, if your bike sits too upright for comfortable freeway work (doesn't apply to the CB1100)
-that giddy feeling when you finally come to your senses and remove your ugly, hot, noisy windshield
Cons:
-headache-inducing wind buffeting
-annoying, noisy airlflow
-having to look through a windshield is for cars, not motorcycles
-optical distortions with taller shields
-a windshield full of splattered bugs
-scratches on your windshield
-big gusts of wind grab onto your tall windshield, turning it into a big sail
-your beautiful naked bike now looks hideously nerdy and downright awful
-reduced fuel mileage (with a tall shield)
-reduced acceleration (with a tall shield)
-reduced visibility at night and in the rain (with a tall shield)
-much hotter in summer
-extra cost and complexity
-absolutely not the way God and Soichiro intended
Unless you're on a feet-forward cruiser, sitting bolt upright, to where you need some sort of windshield in order to do freeway speeds without being blown off the back of the bike, the best windshield for any naked bike is the smallest windshield possible, or no windshield at all. People who say there is too much windblast on a CB1100 have simply never spent any real time riding one. In terms of wind fatigue, it will do normal freeway speeds without any problem whatsoever. You won't maintain 100+mph Autobahn speeds, but you can comfortably do 75 mph all day and night, no worries.
Enjoy the feeling of freedom that comes from riding your CB as it was intended to be ridden, in clean, smooth, quiet air.
Skip the windshield.
I arrived almost at the same set of conclussions as VLJ, but without even buying a windshield.
Bike looks better naked. Runs fine. I'll leave it as it is.

Not fatally it seems.

No, but a pain in the neck.

Agree, I put a Puig on and it helps a lot at 60 +, which means So Cal freeways. If never, or infrequently ride freeways, don't bother. The Puig fits well, and easy to install.

I have a Dart Marlin and i'll be perfectly honest.....i don't think it does anything. i mean it might, but it's beneath my ability to perceive a positive or negative effect. It does look extremely snazzy though, and suits the lines of the bike perfectly. I keep it because the styling cue turns me on, but at 80 mph or so i'm perfectly comfortable without it.

I don't detect any difference above 120 km/h, which is less than 80 mph.
That said, the CB is incredibly stable at 180.

I had naked for 2 years and now heading into the second year with a Road Comet 2. I really like the RC2. Below 50 mph, there didn't seem to be an appreciable difference. On the occasion I'm on the interstate (which is 80 mph in many areas here in UT), the little fairing takes a lot of wind blast off my torso, which I found to be tiring after about an hour with no shield. YMMV.

I like a windshield. I live in SoCal, near the beach, and ride Pacific Coast Hwy a lot. I like to keep the wind off my chest so I don't have to hold on so tight.

That is likely the exact intent of the small windscreeens. Not too offensive in size, only useful at around normal highway/freeway speeds so to maybe reduce 50% of wind pressure on chest area, thus easing rider fatigue.
Sounds like yours is working great Roper.
