And (2) when we watch shows about Australia, it seems there is always some critter crossing the road. Is hitting Kangaroos an issue for you guys like hitting whitetail deer is for us here in the eastern US? I imagine it can't be much fun hitting one of those, they are pretty big aren't they? Btw my buddy Jim and I did a Blue Ridge Parkway ride this past spring and he hit 2 big snakes lol

Luckily, I've never hit a kangaroo, but I've come close in a car a couple of times. If you hit a big one on a bike it would be a very unhappy experience for both of you. So, too, would be hitting a koala or a possum, I guess, they're big enough to take you off the bike. Don't see too many critters (lovely word) in the day time, but at dusk they're an issue.

The Google maps thing was the first time I've done it. I'll write down how I did and post it for you. The good news is that it wasn't hard. But you do need a Google id to save it.

Work the camera with left hand one finger turns it on another presses shutter button..aim and shoot. I don't particularly like to stop to take pictures either, but see lots of stuff I like to take pics of.

I'll have to try this. I might be able to do it in the summer with light weight gloves; not sure about the cooler months. I guess even pulling over and taking a shot wouldn't be too hard if the camera was easily accessible.

Thanks Ferret; food for thought.

Thanks. I'm very lucky. I can turn even the 25km ride to the coast into a fun trip with a couple of easy detours. It's a product of living away from the city with attractive, slightly hilly and rural hinterland within easy reach.

There are certainly bits of Australia where you'd have to be an expert in riding in very straight lines on very flat road. It's attractive enough, but not so much fun for bikes.

Sorry all, the following text embedded in a post was meant to display a map. It didn't work. I can't delete it.

There...try again!
