Sunday ride home
#1

I've a mate who occasionally asks me to go fishing for a few days on [url=https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Moreton+Island,+Brisbane,+Queensland&hl=en&ll=-27.087251,153.415833&spn=1.09672,2.113495&sll=-27.470506,154.068146&sspn=1.092944,2.113495&oq=Moreton,+Queensland&hnear=Moreton+Island&t=m&z=10]Moreton Island just off Brisbane. It's no place for the CB1100 as it's a sand island, so I had to abandon it at the ferry terminal in Brisbane where it waited patiently for my return.

There's no ride report on the trip down as it was a straight line squirt down the free-way and unmemorable in most respects, except for having to put on the waterproof kit only then to have to take it off again. (It's too hot to ride in it if it isn't raining).

The day after I got back from the island I decided to take [url=https://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?msid=201247423130042081552.0004f3c17adf80ed21e84&msa=0&ll=-27.105589,153.432312&spn=2.193019,4.22699]the scenic route home. It involves leaving Brisbane to the west and heading up Mt Nebo to the north-west. It's a pretty climb and a bikers' paradise as it twists and turns. It was particularly so given it was Sunday and a reasonable day at that.

Leaving Brisbane

Heading up the mountain

In the township of Mt Nebo, I stopped for egss, bacon and coffee at a café where I could watch the bikes coming out of a corner.

Views from the Café

A few kilometres after leaving the café, I chose to go down the mountain again to Samford, rather than continue through Mt Glorious and down to Lake Wivenhoe. The road down to the lake has some great twisties, but I wasn't willing to travel the extra distance.

Down the hill to Samford

After Samford, the road leads through Dayboro and up onto Mt Mee, a fantastic ride I've talked about before. Plenty of twisties and bikes.

Mt Mee Road

Due to photo limits, part 2 follows.
There's a café atop Mt Mee where I took these photos, the first one's for Buffalohead:

Finally, across the plain to the excellent hill to Maleny

From Maleny there's a great view south to the Glasshouse Mountains.

That's it for photos; the camera battery went flat. But I made it home without putting a wheel on a freeway.

Very nice pics my friend. My gosh, all that green. We haven't seen green in months.
Looks like a fun place to ride. Love the little cafe right up against the road where you can have a bite and watch motorcycles coming through. Very cool.

Love the pics. What in the world is that blue chopped out looking motorcycle? Where was the engine? Was it a trike? Talk about a couch on wheels. Just when you thought you had seen it all you have not.

Great pics there mate, thanks for sharing. Nice to see the green grass as ours is mostly yellow/brown around Melbourne following a dry summer.

It was a trike. Sorry I didn't get a better picture of it. I did get one of its front wheel and rear end with the rest obscured by a tree if you're really interested. Not my kind of thing, but they looked like they were having fun.

You're all welcome. The green is great and more pronounced to the south of here where, for no reason I can figure, they've had lots more rain. It's great country to ride through if any of you ever get the chance.

I hope you get some rain in melbourne Aussieflyer and that Spring soon springs in the US. Smile

That area, the trees, the forests, the two lane roads, and all that green, actually reminds me of Northern Louisiana, (my roots). I will be riding in Louisiana this spring and summer on trips to see my kids and my Granddaughter. Will be sure to get some pics.

How's it going over there with the natural disasters? Not too long ago they were posting photos of incredible flooding, and more recently there were news stories of massive wildfires and drought. Hope it's settled down...

Thanks Spaceman. We've been spared any natural disasters where I live, other than unusual heat and not nearly enough rain. It will be a drought soon if we don't see more rain than we have.

Other parts of the country seem to be OK as I write. I guess the US and Canada have similar experiences—different weather and disasters in different parts—being such large countries.

How's the hip?
