Ok, already enough interest. Will start looking at venues, including those suggested. Also will begin to look at nailing down a weekend. :-D

If you plan To go to the Smoky Mountains, I cannot recommend Two Wheel Inn in Robbinsville, NC highly enough. The rooms are clean and reasonably priced. They have a covered patio area with a fire pit. Each room has its own bike garage. They make it very easy for groups to reserve and they have a very reasonable cancellation policy. Check them out

I can definitely stand to spend a weekend in the mountains at the end of summer. I prefer to camp, but SWMBO doesn't always share that particular love.

We rode up to the closest mountains we could find in March for our anniversary, but the weather was terrible and there was no riding once we were there and no hiking or exploring the nearby towns - it poured almost the entire time, and the temps dropped more than had been expected. Thankfully we were in a cabin and not a tent, I'd probably never be able to get her camp again if that had been the case. She was a trooper though, rode almost 5 hours in a cold downpour on her little Sporty.

Lots of advice on what to do about your wife's bike, none about what to do with the kids. LOL

Oh, and my wife loves her CTX (700 naked): Low seat height, great gas mileage, and very very highway-capable.

We sent our kids to college to free us up for more motorcycling. Big Grin

Us too! One in college - just finished her sophomore year, one graduated from college and in pharmacy school.

The Barber Motorsports park just outside of Birmingham is AMAZING. If you have never been there, you will be shocked at how big and professional this museum, track, and grounds are. It really belongs in LA, or New York, or London... It's unbelievable!!! That being said, I don't think that would be a good place to meet because, unless I'm missing something, the riding around that area is not that great. Northern Georgia, SE Tennessee, up through the Cherahola Skyway, and/or over towards Maggie Valley in Western NC would be much better... especially for riding. Of course, Maggie Valley does have 'Wheels Through Time' which is a pretty cool museum but it in no way is on the same level as Barber. I'm not a big fan of the Dragon... been there done that... too many crotch rockets. I vote the Maggie Valley area.

At the moment, I am pre-planning a couple of "scouting" trips up to Tellico Plains (some good cabin places there too), Robbinsville, Sylva, Chattanooga, Cleveland, TN, Maggie Valley and the like. I know it will be difficult, but I will muddle along and soldier through in order to find the perfect place. I would like to find a place that is within easy reach of many great rides like Cherohala, BRP, 28 in N.C., and even the dragon for those who want to be able to say they did it.

I think the only thing better than a great site full of friendly, helpful folks is actually meeting and riding with some of them.

I'm NOT going to Cleveland. Just forget it. Even if I wanted to (I don't) there's a warrant...

Just leave Cleveland off the list please.
