chasin the flood...latest pics added 3/15

With last weeks rain and all the snow melting it creates another problem. Flooding along the Ohio. My little town is right in it's path (I don't live in town but on the first ridge back so not an issue for me)

54 degrees and sunny so it was time to get back on 2 wheels. Checked the tires in the ST and added a couple pounds each. Dumped 3 1/2 oz of Seafoam in the 1/2 tank of fuel from when it was parked 3 weeks ago. Disconnected from the Battery tender, rolled it out and fired it up.

the ice finally melted off our road so I could get out. Snow still has a ways to go

First stop was the car wash to get some of this past winters salt and grime off the bike

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20march%209%202015%20006_zps9lws2fpx.jpg.html][Image: b1574c3e3b91d42e82b7accb05a25666.jpg]

Had to stop and pick up a script for my wife. The big stores still have mounds of snow that has to melt

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20march%209%202015%20008_zpscsduoxgo.jpg.html][Image: be2e975ed69157aef70d8485fff76add.jpg]

The county and state roads looked pretty good

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20march%209%202015%20010_zpsgafeki3o.jpg.html][Image: d125f767048c810c2027301e49adde1b.jpg]

the only problem is in this hilly country is the snow melts on the high sides and it drains across the road and you have to drive thru it and any cars ahead of you spray a mist of it in the air all over the front of your bike, windshield, helmet face shield etc

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20march%209%202015%20018_zpspl0toafb.jpg.html][Image: 8076228a13b158460a142e62f4507cdb.jpg]

I headed down to the river to look at the flooding. Not awful. seen much worse. Emptysea I took this on 52 headed west down by the little rest area at Grant's home I took your gang to. That's it on the right. The water is almost in the parking lot. If you remember it was probably 20-25 feet down to the river when you were here

Since flooding can be an issue, many people are building new homes on these giant stilts. This is right in town and right now the river is just across a single lane road from his yard

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/flood%20ride%20march%209%202015%20028_zpsrp1wsvzj.jpg.html][Image: 597754372a33bc0ec64f454571282118.jpg]

Here is the main drag in town. Water is not ion the road yet. When my son was in high school in 97 the water was 1/2 way up the first floor on these buildings on the right. They closed his high school which is up on the hill and moved police, fire, bank and pharmacy into the high school. In the flood of 1937 the water was over the second floor on these buildings.

Been 21 days since the last ride. Got in 84 miles today. It was great!

Good write up, like the pics - fun "ride-along" . . . .

Quick question, I see you used a power washer. In general, is it OK to take the power washer to the CB1100 to get the heavy grime off before doing more detail work in the garage?

Way to go, Ferret. What a relief for you.

Treytextag, I've seen people swearing that you shouldn't let a power washer near a motorcycle. Others say that a reasonably low pressure one is OK. Commericial ones can be a problem because the pressure is very high. I use a reasonably low power output domestic one on my bike and don't let the head of it get too near seals and other high risk areas.

I only use the high pressure hose on my ST with all the body work and then only on the lower 1/2 to wash off winter salt and grime, otherwise it's low pressure hose, S100 or Bikebrite and a sponge. The CB never gets hit with a high pressure hose.

54 degrees?! That's practically bikini weather for you, isn't it? I noticed you left out the selfies this time around. I'm glad you were able to get out for a ride. 21 days is way too long! I hope this signals the beginning of a long riding season for you.

MG started out wearing the normal gear I've been wearing since November. Shed the heavy gloves and balaclava, and was still over dressed. Lowered the windshield on the ST until wind could once again make it to my face. Felt great!

46 now at 6:45 in the morning and although raining we may hit 60's in the next few days. Wed and Thursday are supposed to be nice. So I will be riding then. Rain again Friday and Saturday.

80 miles today. Feels great to be back in the saddle. Tomorrow is supposed to be even nicer. Thinking about taking the CB for a ride.

I tried taking an ST off the side stand today and was like, no way. Valkyrie comes up easier. Even the CTX13 which is a big machine comes up pretty easily. Really nice machines though. A friend toured New England on one quite a bit. - melting like crazy in New England now. Not much flooding around me but its hilly here. In the flats there will be some flooding.
