I’d been home about a week before I had to return to Brisbane for a specialist appointment and a baby inspection. Again, I had the luxury of taking some time and going the longer way, so I decided to ride the way I’d returned home on the [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5283]last trip so I could experience the best bit of Mt Glorious from the bottom to the top.

I got myself on to the motorway, which is being significantly upgraded very close to home, and headed south to the turn off onto the Steve Irwin Way, named after the eccentric crocodile hunter and zoo owner killed by an obstreperous sting ray in about 2006.

I turned off at Beerwah to give myself the pleasure of riding the Beerwah-Kilcoy Road which offers a few agreeable twisties on the way up the hill to the junction with the Maleny-Stanley River Road.



Just before one of the fun bits, I had to stop to delete some photos from the memory card in my camera so I could keep taking photos

After stopping I rode to Kilcoy where I turned off onto the Esk-Kilcoy road. As usual there was almost no traffic and I made good time across the flat. There are enough small hills and turns on it to make it interesting.





Heading south towards the Somerset Dam. Not too far north of the dam and for a stretch to the south the road gets a lot more interesting

After the Somerset Dam, the roads takes you across relatively flat land with a few long sweepers, but there’s no traffic, the surface is good and it’s always more fun than I expect.


You turn left onto the Northbrook Parkway which almost immediately becomes a more interesting ride, although the surface of the road is not so good in parts and you have to keep a close eye on corners as you head into them.

Roadworks towards the top of the mountain brought me to a stop until an escort vehicle arrives to lead you through. I don’t think I’ve ever struck this before. The chaps in front of me were fully leather clad. I’d seen them in a rest area at the bottom of the hill and let the guy on the right (who was on a CB400) pass me on the way up. He was practising his track moves, moving across the seat and putting his leg down elegantly as he led me up the hill. His mate came tearing up after him.


As I’d hoped, it had been well worth the ride up Mt Glorious from the west. It’s a good road and steep and windy in parts. It’s the sort of road that would repay work and experience. As a bonus, there’s good coffee at the Mt Glorious Café, and bikes to be photographed too.

From the Mt Glorious Café, it’s a pretty ride along the twisties of the ridge before the descent into Brisbane down the Mt Nebo Rd.




There’s something very satisfying about being able to ride from my home to the State’s capital without spending too much time on a main road.

Very, very nice. I plan to be up your way after Greek Easter so if you are at home we should ride some of your favourite local roads.
