Ok, as soon as I do my initial service and get my new seat in, I'm going to do my first ironbutt ride on my CB. I'm not sure why I want to other than to say I did.

I'm still trying to figure out what route I want to take. I'll either head west, south or north first to keep the sun from being directly in my eyes. I'll probably head for the Texas hill country and back on a cicular route.

I've been thinking about doing it, and the other day, after a 300 mile ride I wasn't ready to stop. I'll be doing this alone. Everyone I know who rides right now thinks that a 200 mile day is all they can take. Except for one friend who works nights on weekends. Scheduling excludes him.

Best of luck. I have not had the time to attempt this, but I do have the inclination. A friend of mine who has done several IBs suggests that you stay hydrated and take frequent breaks. He gets off his bike every 100 miles and does a short series of stretches. His point is that if you wait until you're thirsty to drink and sore to stretch, the second half of the IB will be grueling.

Take photos!

I've done several iron butt rides. 1000 miles in 24 hours is actually pretty easy if you stay hydrated and follow the recommendations in the link below. I usually set a pace of 70 mph max for 100 miles followed by a quick 10 minute bathroom, snack and stretch stop, repeat. I never eat big meals during the ride that could cause post meal drowsiness or the sudden need to make a "unexpected bathroom stop". I keep diluted sports drinks on the bike so that I can sip on them as I ride. A Scala or Sena Bluetooth system that allows you to talk to friends on the phone or listen to music REALLY helps a lot!
I'd also recommend a couple of 500-750 mile days as minor annoyances in the seat, windshield, handlebars or hips can become a major PITA after 750 miles. Get all the bike ergonomics sorted beforehand.

I did a SS1000 this Eastern, from Germany thru France down to Italy, 2013 model with windshield and original seat. No problem at all, if planning is right.

Plan your breaks and distances between. With a 2013 I had to fuel every 200 km anyway, used this for a short rest.

Plan your fuel stops in advance and check gas stations are open at planned time of arrival. It would cause stress, if you had to start to look out for fuel station underway, while the gauge is blinking.

And it's easier during summertime, when daylight is longer.

Yeah, I've already counted on the eat light, stay hydrated, stop every 100 miles plan. The bluetooth suggestion is a good one. I've done a few 500 mile days in the past. But I've never even thought about a 1000 mile day until recently. But now that it's stuck in my head, I'm going to do it

I did a 900 miles day on my ST1100 back years ago. It was okay but.....I had no help for the throttle. I think I started having feeling in my middle two fingers about two weeks later. It was a good ride though. I think that was in about 1996. So I was about 38 at the time. Good luck. Stay hydrated.

I've got a cramp buster that I haven't put on yet. I may buy a throttle lock. I've had a throttle lock before. I don't count on them, but it is nice to take your hand off and flex it a little

i did one ( although not officially documented) on my way back from 2004 daytona bike week.
it was unplanned (no preparation or planing) and on my sportster.
started at about 7 am and got home about 3 am the next day.
it was just over 1000 miles in 20 hours. this was florida to long island in march.
