Louisville to Sparta, KY back road

I'm heading through Louisville, KY to Sparta, KY tomorrow afternoon and looking for a back road instead of I-71.

"42" looks like a good alternative to the interstate....has anyone traveled that road?

Any details would be appreciated....surface conditions, traffic, etc.

Going Nascaring at Kentucky Speedway? Have fun. I've heard it's a zoo down there when the races run.

42 will work well. Lots of bikes run up that way, and I've been up through there several times. I don't think there are any surface issues currently.

I'd ask if I can tag along, but my bikes are in MO now.

Thanks Ferret, my son-in-law has done all the hard work....already there with scaffold set up on the inside of one of the turns. All I have to do is show up, climb up (not that easy), watch and leave...sure glad youth has all the energy to do it all!

The view from there is amazing, you can almost ready out and touch the cars as they go by. TV just doesn't capture the speed and sounds of a live race. I'm not a big fan of watching from the stands, but this one I just can't pass up. I've heard rumors they will move that fence back some day...right now it's amazing.

I was thinking this is almost your backyard....have you been on 42?

Probably lol I've ridden all thru there..25, 127, 421 but the only way I have been by the speedway is down 71.
