A lake, a creek, a covered bridge and a wolf?
#1

After watching Dani Pedrosa win his first MotoGP of the season it was time for a ride. Temperature was a nippy 58 degrees and the skies were clear and bright blue. Figured I'd hit some curves that pass by some water this morning. So first photo stop was at White Oak Creek outside of Bethel, Ohio

Crossing White Oak Creek out on Bethel-New Hope Rd by New Hope, Ohio is this wonderful old covered bridge, no longer usable.

Next stop was on St RT 774 outside of Mt Orab, Ohio at Grant's Lake named for Ulysses S. our 19th president who was born and grew up in this area. Found these guys casting their hopes and dreams for bass, or crappie or blue gill I suppose.

The lake is shallow but large. My younger brother likes to Kayak here. Hey Redbirds....I spotted the snake like neck and head of a Cormorant cruising the lake. Really rare for this area

On my way thru Mt Orab, Ohio I saw this unusual sight. I'm pretty sure this lady was walking a WOLF!

Headed towards Williamsburg, Ohio I had often spotted this old abandoned building way off in the distance on a side road, and have always wondered what it was. So today, being the wanderer I am lol, I took the side road and I'll be darned, the sign says "Country Farm Restaurant". This place is huge. No way there is enough population in the area to support such an endeavor. No wonder it is sitting vacant now and has been for some time.

Great ride. A little over 68 miles. Temp had moderated to close to 70 by the time I got home.

Like Rocky, I always enjoy your rides and the photos, Ferret. However, I fear your mention of the rarity of cormorants in Ohio has triggered a memory or two. They are common hereabouts, and in other places I've lived. The mere mention of them reminds me of the Christopher Isherwood verse:

The common cormorant (or shag)
Lays eggs inside a paper bag,
You follow the idea, no doubt?
It's to keep the lightning out.

But what these unobservant birds
Have never thought of, is that herds
Of wandering bears might come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.

The other thing about cormorants which poses a significant hazard to the rider of a CB1100 is the toxicity of their guano. Imagine parking one's bike and wandering off for a cup of tea and a cormorant momentarily taking a rest on the bars of the bike while checking out the beautiful gauges. Should it leave a deposit on the tank, a bloke would be advised to get it off as quickly as possible before it becomes, like the tank badge, a permanent fixture. Indeed, in a future world deprived of nifty chemical fixes, shag sh*t may well become a substitute for all sorts of epoxy.

58 degrees - I did my 9/11 Hillary faint on that one !
We also have cormorants , have one blue herring I have known for years that stands beside me when I am fishing and gets all excited when I catch one knowing it gets any "trash fish" i catch and sometimes a trout.
very pretty country and I love your bike , wish I had a 6th gear but don't know why?
gotta go slow so everyone will see me , right ?

Nice ride ferret. I love covered bridges and they look just right with some motorcycles parked nearby. There are over 20 covered bridges in Georgia. Sparky and I did a big circle through our home state a few years ago and visited most of them.

The Cormorant would be an unusual sight in Ohio. Do you see any of their Anhinga cousins there? Both are abundant here and cause much distress to local catfish pond owners.

Hey Ferret, great ride and great photos. Love the photos of the CB, and I am now going to look at them all again to see if there's anything in the background worth looking at Big Grin
