Any members along the total eclipse path?

Sitting at the Emmett, ID airport getting ready to take off. Traffic going north (towards the line of totality) was pretty heavy. Fortunately, I was going south to the airport.

It was pretty cool! I was at 14,000 ft over central Idaho. It got really dark, really fast when totality arrived. Very eery. Only pics I got were on my lanyard cam, so I'll try and post one after I get back and upload them.

Here's a link to my Youtube video of the eclipse.

Pardon the shaky video. I was flying and shooting.

Cool.. you got a lot closer than I did lol. Did you have to wear special glasses to fly and shoot the video?

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing. We were at 93% here in Denver. The temps dropped a few degrees and the sky darkened somewhat, like it would on a cloudy day, but otherwise the whole event was high on hype and completely anticlimactic. Think I'll make better plans for the next one in 2024.

No, I just used the glasses occasionally to look at the sun and check the progress of the eclipse. Unless you're looking directly at the sun, you can't see anything through those glasses.

Yeah, the big difference comes when the coverage is 100%. It's like going from a cloudy day to late dusk in about 30 seconds.

From 13,500 ft I was high enough to see light at the edge of the shadow all the way around. I'm told from friends who were on the ground below me that it was much darker at ground level.

I attempted to get to Ozark,IL for my viewing point, but due to traffic, we stopped about 20 miles short. Fortunately, we were still in the path of totality. It was an incredible sight, the sky at the moment of totality was somewhere between blue and black, but leaning toward the dark and in a hue that I do not recall seeing anywhere in nature. The ring of sunlight around the intervening moon was brilliant white.

I decided to take a photo in remembrance of Rick "physics-teacher" Day, who was looking enthusiastically forward to the 2017 eclipse.

This was taken during the period of totality that Rick said would be worth the 350 mile ride. He was correct. It was the best I could do armed only with an iPhone and a little over a minute of time. Hope you all enjoy it.

RIP, Dr. Day.
