I even prefer the five speed on my 2013 than the sixth speed on my 2014 and 2017.

Considering 2013... should I keep looking for 2014?

You know you can ride around all day in 5th gear on back roads on the 14/17 6 speeds if you want, but when you jump on the interstate on a 13 5 speed, you are out of options. With the 14/17 you have the option of snicking up another gear, dropping those rpms and upping your gas mileage which is a great trade off

At first glance one would think the 2014s would be the better choice. However, when looking at it by any objective measure it just doesn’t play out that way. For instance. You spend less time shifting on the 13. The 13 is able to do with 5 gears what the 14 requires 6 to accomplish. But, that saved time is lost because you’ll spend it fueling the 13 more frequently due to the smaller tank than the 14. So gearing is a wash. Then there’s the issue of the 2 mufflers on the 14 vs the one on the 13. You’d think that the 14 would be twice as quiet but it’s not. Once again the 14 requires more hardware (in this case twice as much) to do what the 13 is able to do with one. Plus there’s the additional weight of the muffler. Advantage in this case is clearly in the 2013s favor. Most forum members agree that the 13 is the most sporty looking of the versions out there and the 14 DLX is the most retro looking. Depending on what look you prefer (that’s a personal choice) would once again result in a wash. We could go on like this with back and forths with no clear winner. For instance...2014 Riders throw out words like ‘buzziness‘ to describe feedback from the 13s to which we 13 owners reply “Meh...man up, you decaf soy designer latte drinking hipster” as we swig down our steaming hot cup of jet black truck stop Folgers. At any rate, you can’t go wrong with whatever CB version you buy. If push comes to shove I’d settle for a 2014DLX.
