RE: Live to Ride...Ride to Eat

Great Thread Stichill
most of my bike rides involve going to get food or eat at a restaurant.
an unusual favorite is a 15 min ride over to a small town restaurant that is only open from about 10:30 AM till 2 PM and closes early if the food runs out sometimes before 1PM
owner is a retired Navy and a fantastic cook . here are a few pics with the owner / cook on the right

Steak 'n Shake burgers are great, ferret. I usually get the double but if I'm really hungry, it's the triple for me.

The Roadkill Cafe looks like my kind of place, use2b! Looks like there's some great cooking going on in there.

500 mile round trip run to Pie Town, NM!Big Grin

I've made this run several times in the past but this was a first for the annual festival.

About 90 degree temp, overcast sky with much of that due to blowing in from the fires in the NW states. Some also from local precip clouds which felt refreshing and may have helped clean off some of the bugs.

Green Chile Cheeseburger at the Largo Café in Quemado.

Fresh out of the oven slice of Coconut Cream from the Pie-O-Neer Café in Pie Town.

Shot taken before the crowds arrived.

Wife wanted to ride down to "Old Washington" outside of Maysville Ky. Some neat old log houses.

this is the post office in Old Washington, Ky

another cool ol log cabin in the historic district

after cruising thru the historic district there, and in Maysville, we headed to "George"town Ohio (to keep the Washington theme going) and a stop at the Country Inn

this place makes great fried chicken, but we had already had lunch, and it was too early for dinner so we had some of their homemade, to die for, Orange Creamsickle Cake and a cup of tea.

OMG this stuff is good. When passing thru town I will often stop and pick up a piece to take home. Zesty orange flavor with cream cheese icing with bits of pineapple in the icing. Mmmmm

If in the area, be sure and stop in and get the fried chicken with sides and a slice of creamsickle cake and then crawl out to your bike and try and ride home without falling into a food stupor lol

oh yea, then we rode some great roads back home incl 221 which runs from Georgetown to Higgensport, Ohio on the Ohio river

221 has miles of this dry stack rock wall, what an effort it must have taken to build

and 133

and then along the river to home

Oh and picked up another milestone on today's ride, but posted that pic in the milestone thread

Wow, Gary! 550 miles for pie...that's determination! And man that looks like an awesome plate of burger and fries...and that PIE! Thumbs Up I spent some time in Albuquerque on business, but I never got up the courage to try the green chilis on a burger. I did eat at Blake's Lotaburger quite often, though! Big Grin
Nice ride, ferret! Love the historic places. That cake is unique...never heard of it but looks delicious!

MoiniClap

@use2b
the canned fisch in tomato or paprikasauce ist complete different to
"Matjes"

a little wiki about "Matjes"

The soused herring (maatjesharing or just maatjes in Dutch, or matjes in German and Swedish) is an especially mild salt herring, which is made from young immature herrings. The herrings are ripened for a couple of days in oak barrels in a salty solution, or brine. The pancreatic enzymes which support the ripening make this version of salt herring especially mild and soft.

the dutch way to eat Matjes:

Hope you boys get an imagine.......Huh

fishy regards from northern Germany
