RE: CB1100 forum miles

Ok... I've passed 13,000 for the year (13,389) thanks to a 424 mile weekend. Hoping to get to 15,000 for 2020 as I've said in an earlier post above. I would also like to say to people that I ride on average once every two day which would be 183 days. Currently at 138, so I need to ride 42 of the last 80 days of the year. That will be tough, but let's see what the Chicago weather will bring us and maybe I can squeeze 42 rides in between drops and flakes.

RE: CB1100 forum miles

Saw that when I posted yesterday's miles Sea. Congrats of the highest order. An admirable amount of miles for a working stiff.

oooh 2,000 miles in 42 days is approx 48 miles a day. Gonna need some long mileage weekends to ease the burden. A 424 mile weekend is the equivalent of 9 of those days in just 2.

Although not a goal, I still need 3087 miles in the next 81 days (counting today) so I only need 38 miles a day for every day the rest of the year lol

Hope it's a mild winter lol

..heading out now

The coldest I've ridden in was -2f, I think, but the lowest temp I can verify with a screenshot of it from my phone is +9f in February of this year. So, yes, I ride below 50f. My wife usually uses 50 as her cut off, but with her new heated gear and enormous windshield, we've ventured out when the start temp was in the 40s -- Fahrenheit of course.

I brought baby home (2014 CB1100) on a winter day when the air temperature was -25C (-13F) and the machine behaved wonderfully. Add the windchill down to -51F or -46C (90 km/h).

The CB1100 has good operating temperature range. Only maybe the suspension was hard, but was expected given the circumstances.

I noticed, it might be just me, that below 50*F, myself and the CB are no longer one unit and tire handling is not to my liking. Also I get more stiff, lacking flexibility but not due to senior age or I am cold...just 'caus this temp is not meant for me.
One trip for transpiration to a new home might?? be ok, not riding tho Smile

You're right than on the super-cold days, especially when there's a build up of crushed road salt on the pavement, it can get a bit slippery. I take pretty flat and straight routes on those days and, since I have neither heated grips nor a windscreen, the rides are not much longer than my personal qualifying minimum ride length of 10 miles.

About 60 minutes of distance including extra joy riding. I recall I didn't have more than 10 minutes left in me. No heated gloves. No heated anything. No windshield. Just dressed for the occasion based on previous experience, some at even colder conditions. 45 to 60 minutes is my comfort limit per journey leg before a warm-up is required. I think the longest was two hours at -10C + freeway windchill (and that was on a 600 cc thumper!)

Salt was indeed everywhere, but mostly dried powder or staining - no granules. Traction was a non-issue on salted roads, even around curves. I keep it in one gear lower so to keep the air-cooled engine humming silky smoothly.

I recalled the powder salt did punish my new chain, but it recovered during the warm season, and I eventually committed to the Tutoro auto chain lubricator.
