RE: When the ride hits home
Wow, that's quite a story, Tev. And the reason I will not participate on a ride with people I don't know, no matter how mature they seem to be (Other than the DGR, which is at a nice, slow pace through city streets and for a cause I support.) Good on you for helping the fellow. He must have really been shaken.
If I read the landscape correctly on the scene I passed, it was clearly a group of sport bike riders. They would likely have come out of the nearby canyon behind them, which encourages fast riding. Maybe it was a group of riders of different levels of skill and testosterone.
The one time I was in a position similar to yours, I was riding home in heavy traffic on the freeway near my office. I came upon a girl pinned under her Honda Fury chopper in the middle of traffic. No other cars seemed to be involved, so seemed as though she had panic stopped in the bumper-to-bumper traffic and fell over. I blocked traffic with my bike and got her and her chopper to the shoulder, while giving unpleasant gestures to the stopped traffic that was now honking at us. She was dazed and couldn't speak, but gestured to the phone in her pocked - I handed it to her, she dialed a number and handed it back to me. The voice on the phone said "Where did you go, I lost you in traffic!" Seems this girl was struggling to keep up with her friend, who was probably weaving or splitting through traffic and going quite a bit faster.

RE: When the ride hits home
Tev, Gone - interesting stories indeed.
I pushed started my share of carbed (inline-4) bikes in my life. All started without a sweat. A handy experience to have in a pinch.
I also can't count the number of women seen crushed under their cruisers. No shortage of help to rescue them and thankfully minimal injury. Still, on a freeway can be harrowing.
I remember in one case a woman got pinned and gasoline from her gas cap was pouring on top of her. It was surreal and Hollywood-like. Thankfully, all ended calmly.

RE: When the ride hits home
My CB1100 was on its original battery when I bought it, so it got push started a few times before I coughed up the cash for a new one. Same with my Triumph. And, I imagine its only a matter of time till the Enfield's original Indian battery, not known for robust longevity, will need a gravity assist as well.
And, gotta ask, how many women have you seen pinned under a cruiser? I can only count the one to my experience...

RE: When the ride hits home
... perhaps on the order of ten.
All the men I've seen in accidents were thrown off, many breaking their leg and/or shoulder and soon after smoking a butt trying to remain cool while emergency attendants stabilized them.
The worst I witnessed was when a buddy was thrown off his V-twin Honda and his shoulder blade snapped and punctured through his skin. It never set the same way after that.
In all cases, the men called out about the state of their bike. The women on the other hand, all seemed stunned.
