First Impressions – MotoGear Titanium Headers
#1

I’d like to thank HondaJon for his help and suggestions on the install. Removing the exhaust gaskets and assembling the pipes would have been a lot harder without his advice.

I believe Jon was the first to take the plunge and order the Motogear exhausts:

http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1786

I copied Jon’s setup with TSR air funnel, K&N filter, PCV (stock map) and Staintune exhaust.

Once I got past removing the exhaust gaskets, installation of the headers was remarkably quick and easy. Exhaust sound is a bit louder at idle, but I was surprised at how well the Staintune muffler managed the sound at lower rpms. But at 4000 rpm and above, the bike really sings!

Once on the road, the bike’s performance was transformed! The bike responds immediately to input from the throttle and feels like my old GSX sports bike. In other words hang on when you hit the gas. It really gets up and goes, threatening to raise the front wheel. The stock PCV map seems to work fine – no stumbling or hesitation, no issues with idling or deceleration, and smooth, powerful acceleration up to redline.

The pipes are very colorful – so far – and the collector is much slimmer than the stock exhaust and free of those ugly wields .

I was thinking about those too, where's your video with sound?
Are you OK with the colorization, does it look the same in person as it does in these photos/

Looks super nice CB, and she runs sooo much better now. Motogear makes a really nice product.

That stock CAT really restricts the exhaust. Combined with the Staintune, she is just loud enough at low RPM's but wll let everyone know the bike is not stock at higher numbers, plus she really runs. I loaded the TSR map and noticed no difference in performance when compared to the Dynojet one. TSR only changed (Increased) 6 values in the 5250 - 5750 range at 3/4 throttle

How are those new shocks???

Hiker,

I purchased mine polished and they "rainbowed" too. That is just how titanium reacts to heat. I suggested to CB to save his $$ and skip that step. The look grows on you, and anyone who knows anything about bikes will quickly pick up that those headers are not stock..

Stop. Just stop. Lol
You need an award for most bedazzled cb. Very fun stuff. You better never sell it. I think you might have the most invested in your bike. Glad I live in warm weather. Cold weather breads accessories

Thanks. Perhaps a bit too bedazzled.

I had to tone parts of it down just a little. The red springs on the IKON shocks I briefly had on it were just too red. Got conservative and ordered black springs on the new Ohlins and got an even better ride as a result.

I bought red wheel tape a few months ago but I'm having serious second thoughts. When I added the chrome trim to the tank, my wife asked if I was building a p!mp-mobile. Big Grin

All the red mods aside, the bike handles very nicely with a forkbrace and upgraded shocks, and the engine has come alive with intake and exhaust mods.

Hoping for a warmer 2014/2015 winter. This last one was expensive.

That's bad if a wife notices and points it out…

The titanium header must feel like feathers compared to the stainless. Gorgeous.

Do you lose the centerstand with these?

I was quite amazed when I lifted the stock headers/collect/Cat off the bike. The Motogear headers are indeed featherlight.

Motogear headers provide a lot of room for the oil filter and don't interfere with the centerstand. Once you get the old exhaust gaskets out and figure out the order of the pipes, install is a breeze. HondaJon said his Staintune was a bit diffiult to fit, but mine slid right on.

Like a lot of folks on the forum, my Staintune was purchased from Jerry Finley at Pirate's Lair http://www.pirateslair.net/ early last summer.

You can save yourself a couple hundred bucks going with the full MotoGear exhaust instead of Staintune slip-on and MotoGear headers. And you might be the first on this forum to do so.

The O2 sensor on the MotoGear is the same size as on the stock exhaust. You can just screw the stock sensor back into the MotoGear.

I suspect you'll need a PCV or other aftermarket fuel management system if you go cat free.
